Seems to be a small restaurant out of nowhere but the service and food is amazing. Myself and my wife end up having 4 starter and 2 main dish. Since the quality is so good we decide to order 2 more dessert and it amaze us once again!

Highly recommend for couple or anniversary dinner

A group of business colleagues and I shared dinner at Monty's recently. We were in a private dining room that allowed us to focus our discussion on our business at hand. It also meant we weren't disrupting fellow diners. Overall the food and servcie was excellent. I had the ocean trout which I would rate as one of the tastiest meals I have in the last year - superb.

My wife and I went to Monty's on Valentines Day, during our brief few days in Hobart. It was a Saturday night too and we hadn't planned ahead, so I think we were lucky to get into this unique place at late notice.

The ambience is very different from other city restaurants, as it is in a period Victorian house with "nook-and-cranny" smaller intimate rooms, rather than a larger single dining room. Made us Poms feel quite at home!

The menu was 4 courses, fixed price with no choices, and at A$80 pp wasn't cheap. We would have quite liked to experience a wider choice, but can understand why they went this route.

The food was imaginative, original and attractive....although a couple of dishes we thought were a bit stronger on style than flavour.

But with excellent wines, good food, and a very romantic ambience it was a great night out.

A very busy restaurant with tables close together - definitely a very popular choice for visitors and locals alike. We were celebrating a wedding anniversary and whilst packed, it definitely lends itself to a special occasion because of the separate rooms. We shared the Huon salmon and pork belly as starters, followed by delicious poached ocean trout and a herb and ricotta gnocchi. Dessert was a shared pear tatin which was delicious. Service was good and we much enjoyed the overall experience. There are a few steps to get up to the restaurant so something to be mindful of if you have mobility issues.

Special night out with friends for a Birthday treat. Menu is designed to be shared--- great idea. Worked really well. Food was fresh and fabulous. Great when you find a restaurant that serves such tasty food that you wouldn't probably do yourself. Wine we chose was also excellent. Do not expect your average Pub meal here! If you enjoy quality, you will not be disappointed. Yes, you will pay more, but it was worth it.
We (4) were given a room to ourselves --- great. No music to annoy ---we could hear each other talk. Service was excellent. Would certainly return.
