Stayed at the backpackers part of this hotel. The location is very central to lots of shopping and restaurants, and only a short walk to Salamanca Place. The dorm room was clean, nice sheets, decent beds. The bathrooms however could use some upgrading. Couldn't lock the door on a toilet, and a tap flew off when I used the shower. Other than that, a decent communal area, which could use a bit of decorating/cleaning up.

There's free wifi, but it's very spotty, so don't rely on it. Staff is friendly and helpful and there's a nice bar downstairs.

Stayed in the ensuite triple - a hallway went past our window! At least the sheets and towels were clean. Fine for sleeping. Staff and other guests friendly & the place quieted down early. Just don’t expect a real hotel experience. Everything in Hobart is expensive.

Book through the internet and it lived up to all expectations, until we saw our room.
The place was inexpensive ($90 for three) even at that price we couldn't stay so left early and booked into another hotel. Pretty grotty...window boarded up, washroom very small, power point falling off the wall, room not very nice at all, no outlook, over the bar and was noisy.
Having said all that...the place is in a great location, the bar and restaurant are excellent, the young owner charming.
This is a place I will keep my eyes on as I feel that it is starting to shine; from the downstairs and eventually will make it up to the accommodation level.
Would I stay there again,no not as is but maybe one day.

Arrived early in Hobart and found staff helpful in accomodating us. However we were surprised when the ensuite room appeared to have lost the door through to the toilet. The hotel was full so unable to change room but the staff agreed to charge us at non-ensuite rate for room. Unfortunately it appeared that the communal toilets had not been cleaned often since they were installed when the hotel was first built. All the dripping plumbing also added to the ambience.
Fridge in room was mouldy and the sound on the tv didnt work properly. The fresh coating of whitewash didnt do much to disguise the damp patches. The smoke detector had been removed and the fire escape route diagram appeared to have drawn by a five year old so we were thankful that the drunk in the room over the corridor didnt burn the place down. We were less thankful however that he had no problems with the volume on his television set and that at 4am in the morning he decided to rampage up and down the corridor howling and singing loudly. Apparently he was a long term resident so if you choose to stay here also you may get to enjoy this experience
On the plus side the bar down stairs is full of atmosphere and very nicely presented but this bore little if any relation to the rest of the hotel, the images on their website are misleading and this is actually a poor standard backpackers.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else
