Loved the location; loved the clever design and creativity; loved the friendly staff. I found the place too dark, the lighting in the rooms needs some work, also a bit on the pricey side. Good selection of onsite restaurants but make sure you book ahead.

The room was great - huge, with everything necessary, clean, and interesting. Comfy bed. Great bathroom, too.
The staff are wonderful - accomodating, chatty, friendly and knowledgable.
The art lives up to expectations.
The small conference area is full of interesting historical bits and has some amazing wood work.

But, there is nowhere warm and cozy to hang out, outside of the room. Everywhere was cold, even the corridor to our room. The draughts were unpleasant, the furniture uncomfortable. The atrium is noisy and lacks personality. The lobby was unbearably cold. The furniture in the atrium is plastic and tacky and reminded me of a cheap cafe at a train station, especially so when looking at other guests toughing it out in puffer jackets and layers of outdoor wear. The bar practically opens onto the street, what with the poorly designed front doors and total absence of heating. All very unpleasant on a cold spring day.

My wife and I would have happily sat somewhere with a book and some fabulous Tassie red wine, but had to leave the Art Hotel to find those places. We really weren't motivated to try any of the hotel's cafes and restaurants because of the lack of ambience.

Sadly, this devalued the experience and made the stay overpriced.

Thank you for your review patrickds.

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed our room and that you found the staff you met both friendly and knowledgeable.

We are disappointed you found public areas around the hotel cold and lacking ambiance. I sincerely apologise for this as this is certainly not the welcoming, comfortable environment we hope to create for your guests.

My team and I have taken your feedback on board and be taking steps to improve the warmth and atmosphere of our public areas.

We hope to have the opportunity to accommodate you next time you're visiting Hobart.

We stayed two nights at Henry Jones in one of the superb rooms overlooking the harbour. The room itself was gorgeous, great bathroom with double shower, lovely products and generous comfortable bed, but it was the impeccable service from the staff that was the biggest stand out here and I cannot fault them in anyway. After checking in and mentioning this was a birthday surprise trip a complimentary bottle of champagne was delivered to our room. The staff went out of their way to assist us in every way possible including securing a booking for dinner at the Landscape Restaurant when we were unable to get a table. Our check out was at 10.00am but we were able to leave all our luggage with them while we enjoyed a day at MONA and were then able to use emir lounge facilities while we waited to leave for the airport. Well done to all the staff at Henry Jones, we can't wait to stay with you again

We had our wedding at the Henry Jones Hotel and expected that the services promised before the deposit was paid, would be delivered on the day.

Unfortunately we found that there was clearly more investment from this hotel into the sale skills of the staff in the early days then on delivering what was promised, which only became apparent in the weeks leading up to the wedding when little could be done by way of seeking a new venue.

We felt very disappointed when we were told in the week of our wedding that some of our requests (eg chair covers to cover the the very corporate chairs in the wedding venue, had gone missing and we were told that we had to source our own) could not be met. There were no staff present when our guests were scheduled to arrive to greet them and show them to our venue, instead guests walked around the hotel not knowing where to go and that a pre drinks package had been organised, some went to the bar and purchased their own drinks.

Sadly, signage was not even displayed in the absence of staff. Needless to say we experienced unnecessary stress prior to and on the day of our wedding. We trusted this hotel to look after our guests as promised instead we were extremely disappointed that our guests were left our of pocket and that our pre drinks package was paid for but not utilised.
We would not recommend the Henry Jones Art Hotel as a wedding venue
