We went on a tour with Coreena to South Bruny Island in January 1918.
I am particularly interested in all aspects of the flora and fauna and Coreena was very knowledgable about all aspects of the above and more (history, culture, current affairs). Coreena has been an ‘offical’ tour guide in the past and has. A vast amount of experience. The packed lunch couldn’t have been better. Very easy to get along with.

Thank you for your review Linda C. It was a pleasure to share such a wonderful part of Tasmania with you and I'm thrilled that you enjoyed the day so much. Best wishes, Coreena. PS... might have been in January 2018 though ;-)

This was a private tour for 4 adults to view natural wonders and wildlife.

On meeting Roy (our guide and co-owner of the company) at the cruise ship dock, we were led to a very small VW sedan. The vehicle was absolutely NOT appropriate for the 4 of us – one of my party is over 6.5 feet tall and everyone in the back seat was cramped and miserable. Had we known in advance the car was not made for touring, we would have looked elsewhere for a tour. Roy’s response to our concern was that his wife had the larger vehicle that day doing a tour with a group who had booked before we did but that they would be getting a second larger vehicle in the future. It certainly did not help our situation since the first stop was more than an hour away. We typically choose private tours as opposed to those offered by the cruise ship lines for their flexibility and a more intimate and tailored experience in a larger and more comfortable touring vehicle.

Although Roy was quite nice, he had no real information to offer us about the area. He was unable to answer most basic questions we asked and it was evident that he was not accustomed to dealing with visitors who appreciate a knowledgeable guide. The folks in the rear seat could not hear him and despite my repeatedly asking him to speak louder, he quickly reverted to his soft-spoken normal volume.

While we certainly enjoyed being able to feed the kangaroos (wallabies really) and seeing the Tasmanian Devils, the “petting zoo feeling” was not exactly what we were expecting. Despite knowing in advance that the cost at Unzoo was extra and that lunch was on our own, we certainly did not have an experience worth $750.

As for lunch, I believe we all thought we’d be eating in a local café with sit down service as opposed to a food truck on the side of the road with limited seating, no napkins or condiments, full of tourists, and owners who were rude.

After the lunch stop, we decided to end the outing early since it was not what we envisioned and the passengers in the rear seat were cramped and miserable.

Sadly, we were not even given any photography tips along the way.

Moving forward, I will ALWAYS confirm the vehicle size and type before booking any private tours - despite never having had this kind of poor experience in years past.

Hi Paula S, You evidently had an expectation for a different vehicle other than what you travelled in, as well as more specific preferences for attractions and type of lunch. However we remain mystified as to why this is the case when detailed information about your customised tour itinerary, activities (including flexible lunch options) and transport arrangements was all clearly outlined in our pre-booking email communications.

While our VW Jetta sedan is one of European comfort, and is reasonably spacious, we agree that this vehicle is not suitable for someone 6.5ft tall travelling in the back seat. As per our emails since your tour, had we known you required more space in a larger vehicle we would've been more than happy to assist you with alternative arrangements.

In regards to your comments about Roy, he acknowledges that at times his voice may not carry as far as other people and he makes every effort to ensure that his commentary and information is heard by all. However, I feel that your other comments about him in your review are a little harsh in the circumstances. Roy has 6 years experience leading small groups on a variety of tours and he most definitely appreciates that our guests seek an experienced photography guide with a sound general knowledge of Tasmanian history and the natural environment. It was therefore a complete surprise to Roy and myself that you chose to skip the afternoon of exploring the natural environment with a selection of interpretive guided coastal walks along the Tasman Peninsula.

All that said, we are genuinely disappointed that your experience was not one of the customary high standard experiences we pride ourselves on; experiences for which we have been praised for in many post-experience emails and 5-star reviews from other travellers over the 6 years since we started our business.

Wishing you well in your future travels. Coreena

It was a fabulous day! It was relaxing and the time just flew by! It was everything we requested from Shutterbug Walkabouts.

Personalities, are what makes or breaks a 10 hour sightseeing day in the car together. Therefore, my husband and I opted a private tour of Bruny Island, as we had no idea about the island's history or it's current story. We didn't want to wait for others, or be rushed at many of the stops that tours include. With Shutterbug is was up to us, we consulted with our guide, Coreena, plans were made and adapted as the day proceed, much to our delight.

What a fun day it was, with lots of discussion about history, the wildlife, and life in general. My husband and I talk non stop when we are on holidays together, so to have a guide that can hold her own with fascinating stories for the whole day, suited us perfectly. It was relaxing, not to have to worry about driving, and so we can just enjoy the beautiful scenery. Coreena, was on time for pick us from our hotel and returned us on time for our evening plans. She provided a beautiful wholesome (with some sweeties) lunch, and picked a quiet picturesque spot for our picnic. Coreena took photos for and of us, with the breathtaking landscape, it felt like we had our own personal photographer, oh yes, we did.

If you ever use a private tour guide on an overseas trip, then try it at home too, I highly recommend you take the opportunity to book Coreena and Shutterbug Walkabouts for your next trip to Hobart and it's surrounds. We felt it really enhanced our day by using the services of a professional guide like Coreena, as there is alot we don't know about our own country. Thanks Coreena, for a fabulous day!"

Spent a day with Roy touring the foothills of Mt Wellington, starting with a glorious but windy sunrise followed by learning about the world of funghi for a little close-up photography and then some waterfall lessons at Silver Falls. The focus was on improving my technique and understanding of the camera and Roy delivered. Informative and helpful and always happy to answer my questions. Highly recommended.
