Classic building and service from a bygone era

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 18 Jan 2020via mobile
The Lodge on Elizabeth is a beautiful early nineteenth century building perfectly located to enjoy North Hobart’s vibrant food and drink scene. It also benefits from wonderful rooms, great flourishes and incredibly helpful, friendly and attentive service from another era (in a good way!!).
Additional nice-to-haves included at The Lodge:
- the best continental breakfast spread I’ve ever seen, colossal amounts of tasty fresh berries, nuts and seeds to go on multiple cereal options, natural yoghurt, toast, ham, cheese etc etc
- free port in the parlour
- storage for bags when off trekking, or simply just returning your hire car
- helpful advice, directions, explanations and more (a special thank you Jeff!)
- a beautiful quiet private English garden courtyard to sit and read, chat, have tea, or just chill
We plan to return...

Me and the better half stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed it. Jeff and Julie are just lovely people, and they really made us feel welcome and at home. If your looking for a different kind of stay, I would strongly recommend here. If we go back to Hobart, we will stay here again in a heart beat.

Lovely step back in time place to stay in Hobart. Hosts Jeff and Jill are so friendly. Rooms are beautiful, a lovely change from modern hotels. Great location to restaurants and walking distance into Hobart. Great continental buffet breakfast, everything you need. Highly recommend for a lovely homely stay.

We have stayed at the Lodge 5 years ago and the service Jeff and Julie provide is still outstanding. Jeff has a lovely warm manner and is very accommodating when you are a guest. The garden is beautiful and the rooms spacious and comfortable. This is a great location for the restaurant strip in North Hobart and an easy walk (if you have reasonable fitness) to down town. There is a bit of a hill on the way back but the cab fare on a Saturday night is under $10. We will definately return to enjoy Jeff and Julie's hospitality when back in Hobart next. Thank you

This is a truly lovely period home in North Hobart. A 20 minute walk to the harbour or a five minute walk the other way to a great collection of bars and restaurants on Elizabeth Street. The hotel rooms are very comfortable. There is complementary tea and coffee in the room and also in the sitting room where you can enjoy a glass of the local port as well. The hosts are brilliant - very welcoming, informative and helpful. I highly recommend this lovely hotel.

Thank you Jeff for making my stay comfortable and relaxing, yet again. The rooms are comfortable, clean and quiet. Everything was perfect which makes it a pleasure to be able to stay. I'm sorry I didn't get to say good bye Jeff, but all going well for me I will see you again before Christmas. Keep up the good work, thank you. Bev

Room tip: I just ask for my favourite, but they are all lovely and comfortable
