Stayed 4 nights in a spa room. Loved the attention to detail making my stay an absolute pleasure. My room was warm as toast and had an electric blanket. While it is a challenge to provide contemporary facilities in an 1830's building, the Lodge achieves this. The guest lounge across the hallway was the perfect place to relax with loads of books and facilities. The continental breakfast was top class with loads of extras. I felt more like a guest in someone's home. I would definitely stay there again. The Lodge is a good 25 minute walk from the harbor front. There is a brilliant range of restaurants just a block away.

Room tip: A more expensive room is great value. My spa room was on the main floor and adjacent to the garden, the lounge and the breakfast room.

This is a beautiful place to stay, I couldn’t fault anything. Jeff, the owner was incredibly helpful and there were lots of lovely little touches that made our stay perfect. Highly recommend The Lodge, really convenient location too.

Why I keep going back….

The old-world tranquility of the historic Lodge on Elizabeth inclines anyone to relax in the garden with its tinkling fountain, or the cosy guest lounge with complementary port tea/coffee and biscuits, or on the sunny front verandah.

Just outside the side door—the front door opens onto steep steps—is Elizabeth Street. Uphill, beats the bohemian heart of North Hobart and downhill, is the staider Mid Town, with the city centre not too far walking or by bus. The shops, pubs, cafes, restaurants, izakaya’s (there’s two), a theatre, a clairvoyant, and Australia’s oldest knife shop, are interesting, and finding somewhere to eat is a real pleasure.

The comfortable and spotless accommodations, are furnished in Victorian style. The best rooms are 3, 9 and 12. For those who like fewer frills, rooms 4 and 5 will please.

All rooms have a bathroom with a selection of bath essentials, including makeup remover, a shower cap and hair dryer. The larger rooms have spa baths in the bathroom.

The continental breakfast includes assorted cereals and breads, teas, fresh brewed coffee, cold ham and cheese, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit salad, fruit, yoghurt, and jams, honey etc. Gluten free is available on request.

You can also buy wine by the bottle (not necessarily for breakfast).

After another agreeable stay, as Jeff and Julie waved me goodbye at the side door, the taxi driver unasked, said: ‘They are the best hosts in Hobart’.

That’s why I keep going back. The hospitality is genuine, nothing is too much trouble, and the place ticks along like clockwork.

Room tip: The best rooms are given in the review.

The welcome was very friendly and service was good. Breakfast is continental but lots of food available and gluten/dairy intolerance accommodated. The rooms were smallish but perfectly ok. A comfortable, but a little soulless, guest lounge. Parking is on the street but the hotel have an arrangement for guests which works well.

We loved our stay at The Lodge on Elizabeth. Jeff & Julie are attentive and have clearly put thought into meeting their guests’ needs. They both gave helpful advice to ensure we were able to get the most out of our time in Hobart.
Our room was spacious and had a comfortable bed.
The historic property has certainly retained all of its charm, with a beautiful garden and well maintained facade.
While it did appear to have been a number of years since the interior has been updated, this did not impact on how comfortable we found our room and the facilities.
Thanks for a wonderful stay!
