My husband & I stayed overnight recently in this cozy abode in residential Hobart and for the second time, really enjoyed it.
The accomodation is located on a San Fransisco style street ( it's super steep!) a few minutes from the CBD and the Salamanca waterfront area. There is a private little driveway that leads you to what is essentially the bottom floor of an historic Hobart home.
The inside space has undergone a bit of reno work, so it's all pretty cozy and filled with Freedom style mod furniture, which looks great. There are 2 bedrooms available, but we have only ever needed the main "Luxury Room", as it's called. There is a fantastic coonara wood fire in the lounge, which is a huge bonus as Hobart can get very chilly over the winter & autumn months and a great Sony flatscreen tv and Playsation available.
There is a basic kitchenette cupboard set up with kettle, toaster, microwave, bar fridge and teas / coffees ,etc and I believe there is a basic brekky inclusion too - we opted to try a local coffee roasters for our breakfast. The bathroom is a great feature of this abode, as it offers a wonderful soakers tub and a walk in shower lined with beautiful stone work - it's the best bathroom we've seen in Hobart!
The best features of this stay are it's great location - close too, but not on the very noisy Hobart CBD and waterfront area's, you get a spacious, comfy space all to yourself with a fireplace and an awesome bathroom - all for less then a night in an upmarket hotel at Salamanca!
It is a family home, so you do notice occasional footsteps above, but never intrusive and the old hills hoist clothes dryer is visible from the lounge room - but, we love line dried linens!
The minor disappointments are - there is no heating in the bedroom and even with the door to the lounge open it's gets very crispy in this historic home. Also, the window in the lounge does not open, so you need to open the main door for fresh air ( not sure how comfy this would be in summer?).
We've tried the major upmarket hotels in Hobart over the last 2 years and prefer the cozy, privacy of Altamont House!
