Only the shell of the original stone built prison remains but the tour guide is very informative and the stories told allow you to picture the scene as it was once was on the one walking tour.

Dear tc1509,
Thanks for choosing to visit us at the Female Factory and take the time to leave a review. We are honoured to share the stories of the women and their children that spent time at the female factory. We encourage all visitors to take part in a Heritage Tour or Her Story Performance during their visit to gain further understanding and context of the site.
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in Hobart also.
Kind regards,
Cascades Female Factory

I went to the Cascades Female Factory with a group on a gray, rainy day. When we realized the-45 minute reenactment was outside, we were all moaning and complaining, but once the presentation started, we were riveted. Two truly wonderful actors make you feel like you are there with those poor, sufffering women as they re-enact the story of one prisoner’s experience. It’s a must-see for anyone interested in Hobart’s history as a penal colony.

Today we returned for our second visit this time we bought our teenagers.. it was an amazing insight as to how the female convicts were treated. But you can only het the true understanding if you booked a her story tour.. you are definitely in the moment of the convicts arrival.. Outstanding .congratulations & thank you to livehistoryhobart.
