This is a must do for every visitor to Hobart. I would also recommend doing the guided tour to get the most out of the site and to learn more about Australian convict history. I learnt a bit that was not taught at school and it all made sense.

Your heart will be broken, your mind diverted and you'll learn far more than you bargained for whilst being able to take the most perfectly instagram worthy shots of the bare bones of what's been left behind now the women who suffered here are no more.

We walked to the Female Factory from the Cascade Brewery. Easy 10 minute walk. Not a lot left of the Female Factory to see but still a great place to visit.

We visited Cascade Female Factory from the recommendation of another friend. We paid to see the play in regards to the life of a particular inmate - Mary James, and glad we did. The actors - 2 of, were marvellous, and the story told was of cruelty and hardship these women faced once sent out from England. Sometime for just stealing bread !!
It's a must

Dear Jane A,
So pleased you visited after a recommendation from a friend and sounds like you had a very valuable visit. We are honoured to share stories of the convict women who spent time here, it really is amazing what some of them were sent here for.
Hope you enjoyed your time in Hobart.
Regards,

Very interesting site and insight to the convict past. Make sure you take the tour to hear HER story and rug up if you visit in the cold months.

Thanks for your kind review annwf2014, it sounds like you had a great visit. The cool winter months with our site at the base of Mt Wellington do remind us of what the conditions were like for the women and their children who spent time here.
Hope you will recommend a visit to others.
Warm regards,
Cascades Female Factory
