Excellent actors articulated the lived experience of these convict women to the point where I could feel their pain. The whole experience is not only educational but provides such a realistic glimpse into our past and the brutality of how this country was founded. Highly recommend take the family!!

We enjoyed the site very much. There isn't a lot left of the original buildings but great effort has gone into recreating the atmosphere and give as much info as possible. The "her story" tour was amazing and even the kids loved it. Worth keeping these places alive to remind us of our history!

Dear Nerida W,
Thanks visiting the site during your time in Hobart. The remains of the female factory share a very special history for Hobart and the female convict life in Tasmania in the 1800s. With little of the original remains onsite interpretation is provided to provide our visitors with an understanding of the look and feel of the size of some of the cells and yards the women who spent time here were exposed to. We also encourage all to take part in the Her Story performance or Heritage Tour during their time with us to gain further context of the site.
Thank you again for visiting.
Warm regards,
Cascades Female Factory

I found the Female Factory tour so enlightening. The $15 admission was well spent. Our guide was informative, and gave us a new view on the hardships of the fledgling Tasmanian colony.

I have read some reviews that say there is very little here. Much of Hobart's convict past has been knocked down. It is for us to fill in the missing blanks from the bits we do have left, This is an amazing place allowing a window on the past. The Female Factory buildings with the guides and Her Story theatre was brilliant. I linked this visit with the walk from the city up the Hobart Rivulet and coffee at the Cascade Brewery. Lovely day!

This was well worth the visit. It is especially worthwhile to pay the extra small amount of money to listen to 'her story' to fully appreciate what these women went through. Hobart has such a rich history and this is a great place to visit!
