I found the Female Factory tour so enlightening. The $15 admission was well spent. Our guide was informative, and gave us a new view on the hardships of the fledgling Tasmanian colony.

I have read some reviews that say there is very little here. Much of Hobart's convict past has been knocked down. It is for us to fill in the missing blanks from the bits we do have left, This is an amazing place allowing a window on the past. The Female Factory buildings with the guides and Her Story theatre was brilliant. I linked this visit with the walk from the city up the Hobart Rivulet and coffee at the Cascade Brewery. Lovely day!

This was well worth the visit. It is especially worthwhile to pay the extra small amount of money to listen to 'her story' to fully appreciate what these women went through. Hobart has such a rich history and this is a great place to visit!

There is nothing to see here. There is certainly history attached to the location and the story of the women imprisoned there but there's nothing really left to see. You'd get more info with a google search.

Dear Jed2201,
Thanks for your review and we are sorry you felt the site did not live up to the standards you were expecting. As a site that had little remains the restoration work and interpretation has been significant. We encourage all to experience the Heritage Tour or Her Story performance while visiting to understand what female convict life was like in the 1800’s.
We hope you enjoyed your visit to Hobart and we also encourage guests to visit the Port Arthur Historic Site to see what life was like for the male convicts.
Safe travels and kind regards,
Cascades Female Factory

Most of the building is not there anymore and there isn't enough info for the self-guided tour, which should really be free; not $5. Not worth the visit in my opinion unless you are a history buff.

Dear sulabhsinghal,
We appreciate you taking the time to leave a review after your visit to the site. The Female Factory was in operation in the 1800’s and like many old sites there has not been a large amount of preservation. Four years ago a large amount of work was undertaken to provide interpretation of the site including the feel and size of the cells and the yards on the site. We encourage all guests to take part in the Heritage Tour or Her Story experience whilst visiting to have some further context of the site. We do provide walking maps for those whom may be on a limited time schedule also.
Hope you enjoyed your visit to Hobart.
Regards,
Cascades Female Factory
