We booked one of the underground rooms which was large with a decent bathroom ut a bit on the pricy side. Once the lights were out though it was really strange as there was no light at all and even after dawn nothing to wake you up - it was pitch black. An alarm clock was definitely required.
We had no heating or air con but the temperature was just constant.
The cafe for breakfast was very good and the restaurant very good but a litle on the expensive side.
Nice underground bar but I would have preferred tap beer instead of bottles although the bar prices were reasonable.
Nice pool to relax in after a day touring the area.
Finally the hotel provided transport to and from the airport which is needed as there are no taxis.

Room Tip: underground room a must to get some of the Coober Pedy experience

We stayed in an underground room and loved it! The bathroom needed a little upgrading, and the tiling finished, however this was not an issue as we loved the whole experience.
Breakfast Tip: Make sure you visit their cafe for breakfast. $15 per person for a continental breakfast, perfect.

Room Tip: An underground room for sure!

A perfectly located hotel, with very friendly staff. Great amenities for your stay.
Easy to walk to all parts of town. Eat in ,or dine out.
Large room,with all you need.
There is an underground shop, and displays of how opals are mined, and the history of the area.
Cafe close at hand. Bar and happy hour at night.

Room Tip: I chose an above ground room, with balcony

My room was upstairs and overlooked the side street which was very quiet. The room was HUGE, the bed was very comfortable and the shower was a challenge. The shower whilst hot fluctuated between scalding and freezing with a few seconds of good temperature and given that water is so very precious in this outback town it would be a good idea if they were able to pre-set the water temperature. This was not my first stay in the Desert cave and I had the exact same problem but in a different room. There was also a very strong smell of floral air freshener both in the room and outside in the landing which took some time to disperse after I opened the sliding door to the balcony. On a more positive note the curtains at the sliding door had a very goo overlap -no gaping in the middle, and fell all the way to the floor, the block-out on these curtains was excellent and during summer they would be a god send.

Room Tip: request a quiet room

Stayed in one of the underground rooms, room was super clean with all expected amenities for a large hotel. Front office staff were helpful. Swimming pool was clean, pool towels available. Underground display of opal mining and highway construction was informative. Lounge bar was comfortable with small sitting rooms as well as the main bar area. Cafe had great food and coffee was really good, breakfast was tasty with wide menu. Offer tours from the hotel if you don't want to venture far on your own.
