Very disappointed. All we heard about for our first 2 days in town was “John’s pizzas”. We should’t have listened......
We arrived on a Saturday night and the place was only one third full. We intended to dine in but we were totally ignored for the first 10 minutes and left standing in the doorway. In the end other customers advised us to order at the counter and take any table we wanted.
Upon ordering we were advised that none of the white wines we wanted were available. In the end the server opened a bottle of Chardonnay and told us that that was the only white available so we would have to have that (we had requested any kind of sauv blanc/sem sauv blanc). We refused the wine and decided to drink water. She disappeared and came back with a bottle of the sauv blanc we had originally ordered that apparently they didn’t have.
We then waited over an hour for 2 small pizzas. We had finished our wine before the meal even arrived but weren’t offered further drinks.
Both pizzas were very disappointing. The toppings weren’t bad but the base was horrid. Very like overcooked cardboard with no taste.
For the entire time we waited for our pizzas and while eating them, we observed that the staff behind the counter were extremely unprofessional. There was a lot of loud giggling, hugging, kissing and carrying on that could be heard and seen throughout the restaurant. One of the pizza chefs was parading around with an Italian flag draped around his neck which was falling into the pizza ingredients as he cooked.
Not sure how this place gets such great reviews but we certainly fell for it. Big mistake. After having 3 different meals at the Outback Bar & Grill and experiencing delicious food and fantastic service John’s just doesn’t measure up.
