Too many people had recommended Cliche for us to ignore it any longer. And they were right. Food, service, atmosphere - tick, tick, tick.
The menu is fusion at its best. French-Vietnamese (now that's a combination made in heaven) food with attention to detail in flavour, texture and presentation. The best part is that you can order as you go so that you don't over eat in one section of the menu. We ended up sharing three entrees and a main course and then fighting over our portions of dessert. (Not really, but if we hadn't eaten so well already, we might have.)
They have a great wine list which offers a variety of styles in all colours from multiple regions local, national and international.
The staff member we interacted with most was vivacious without being too much and knew her stuff. Nothing was too much trouble. We didn't want to order too far in advance of what we were eating and while that meant three trips to the kitchen for her with various bits of our order, there wasn't a glimmer of exasperation or annoyance. How very refreshing.
And it's great value. We ate beef tartare, lobster, prawns, pork belly and souffle. We drank sidecars, pinot blanc and coffee. We had change from $200. Great night, too bad we waited so long!
