Overall, our one night stay here was fine - the location is great for the city or the Festival Theatre, the reception staff were terrific, and our room on the 17th floor was very nice, and very quiet - which is big plus. We were facing the river - but it was difficult to admire the view because of the way the furniture was arranged - had to squeeze around the side of the desk. We paid extra to have that view, but could hardly see it.
Other small things annoyed us. Maybe we're too picky, but this hotel isn't cheap, so it's fair enough to have reasonably high expectations. For instance, the supply of coffee was minimal, there was no hot chocolate, but there were about 20 tea bags. We don't drink tea. The cups were tiny - how about supplying some decent size mugs? The little fridge was very quiet, which we appreciated, but that was probably because it had no freezer - so, no ice. We went looking for an ice machine, but were informed by a cleaner that to get ice, one has to call reception and have some delivered (probably for a price). And there was no toilet brush!
There are some nice little touches, such as slippers and bathrobes (which we didn't use, but that was our choice) and a 'pillow menu' which is a nice idea, but one doesn't know if the supplied pillows are okay until one is trying to get to sleep (and one's hubby is already snoring). So I had a pillow problem - could have called reception and asked for different pillows, but it didn't seem worth it at midnight.
If you're staying here, check out the pillows before bedtime!

Thank you for choosing InterContinental Adelaide to stay recently overnight. Your feedback is extremely important to us and we are grateful for you having highlighted the aspects that concerned you which is noted and taken on board. We appreciate that it was late in the evening when you realised the pillow was not to your liking and are sorry you were unable to enjoy the ones supplied. Thank you for your feedback on the coffee and hot chocolate which has been relayed to our housekeeping team along with your comment on the mugs and likewise the toilet brush.
In closing, thank you for your compliments on the reception staff which is pleasing to hear.

Room clean and comfortable (decor a little dated). Service is excellent from booking to checking out.Great facilities. Disagree with paying for Wi Fi, in this day and age this service should be no charge.

Room Tip: lovely river views from River room

Where do we start.
We booked our wedding over a year ago for our reception in the Ballroom at the bottom of the grand staircase. The event planner may have changed a few times (kept getting promoted) but each person had our vision and was truly professional all the way. Our initial manager Cassandra C handed over to Sarah H who finally handed over to Kelsey O who remained right til the end. We were given a tour of all the potential rooms for all the packages available (dependent on number of guests). We had previously been to a function in the ballroom and knew its potential for a stunning reception which is why we ended up choosing this venue.

Our package for 100 people ($165pp) included the location, hotel stay for us as the happy couple, food and drinks package for our guests for 6 hours of reception and an incentive package (variety of incentives, we chose the complimentary breakfast for 20 guests the next morning). Basic room set up with tables and chairs, linen and chair covers included however centerpieces and additional decorations are either to be provided externally or additional cost to go in-house with Staging Connections. We had our lighting and ceiling swagging set up by Staging Connections manager Kyall Z for an additional cost, but it was so worth it to see how magical it turned out to be.

The lead up to our wedding was smooth and calm; every query we had, every suggestion for the reception, every time we became anxious about one of our vendors working together with Intercontinental- the event planners had answers and calmed us all the way. Everything from a set up point of view was smooth, it was absolutely perfect. My now husband Adam got a sneak-peak in the morning of the big day and Kelsey greeted him and made sure it was all as we imagined. Although the lighting had not yet been set up, Adam was already in awe of what was to be. We did have one thing go wrong on the actual day (paid for a fog machine which failed after the first puff of fog) which they were more than happy to refund as we didn't get to use it in the end. This was handled delicately and we were fine with it even though it was a shame.

The staff were more than accommodating; one of my bridesmaids had a craving for hot chips which were provided a mere 10 minutes later. And the food!!!! We had a menu tasting for the wedding and it was incredibly difficult to choose from their listings of canapes, entrees, mains and desserts but we came away with some great choices and everyone on the night loved the food and came away with full and happy tummys. We ended up going for an upgraded drinks package for an additional $10 per head from standard package to allow us to get a better selection of beers, cider and wines. Our party ended up finishing off all the beer to the point where a separate bar on the premises had to open to continue filling the glasses!

The actual stay at Intercontinental hotel was lovely as always- we originally booked a Club Intercontinental room as part of the Wedding package and we were lucky enough to be offered an upgrade to the riverside penthouse (for a reduced charge). We gladly upgraded and it made the experience so much better. We had three living areas to have our canapes in, two toilets, a spa, a massive bedroom overlooking the River Torrens.

Overall cost to have a function (or in our case reception), with all the added bells and whistles, was around $20,000 which for us was quite affordable and I wouldn't have changed anything about the day. I had the best day of my life there and I really do recommend the Intercontinental wherever I go now (despite being an IHG rewards member).

Thank you Intercontinental Adelaide for an unforgettable experience.

Great place to stay close to everything staff are friendly and very helpful
Within walking distance to shops and other amenities
Tram stop at the front door and taxi's etc and only 10 minutes to the airport for travellers. Buffet and more breakfast facilities with plenty to chose from. There are many attractions in Adelaide with many fine food restaurants at North Adelaide and of course across the road from the Inter Continential as well are beautiful Elder Park Adelaide Oval for sporting facilities again within 5 minutes of your accomodation

Room Tip: Higher Floors quieter with sunny bright room

Very comfortable bed. Great views from the Riverview King Rooms, obscured somewhat by windows that are well overdue for a clean. Disappointing breakfast, chaotic, with long wait times, forgotten orders and food not up to the standards of other InterContinental hotels we’ve stayed at. Rooms, pool, entrance, public areas are very outdated - please please please renovate.
