Owner description: Baird Bay Ocean Eco Experience is a marine experience, once done, you will never forget. None of the marine mammals of Baird Bay have ever been fed, nor have they been enticed in any other way. The interaction is entirely of their choosing and will remain so. Not everyday is perfect, the conditions are wild and free. We give it our best shot for an incredible interaction to happen for you with either the sea lions or dolphins, or at its very best both these beautiful marine mammals on the one tour. No guarantees are promised, but in saying that, we can guarantee the least that will happen, is, you will see the sea lions up close and personal.

“Braved the cold water to hang out with some ocean dogs (seals)”
Reviewed 5 October 2016

Three off us jumped into the cool waters of Baird Bay over the long weekend to swim with the seals and it was worth the numb feet!
After some fairly crappy weather, we managed to pick the sunniest day of the long weekend and were pretty glad to see our tour wasn't cancelled! After suiting up (we had our own wetsuits but wetsuits are provided if you don't have one) we hopped into the cruiser and headed out to the colony. The ride was smooth and Jack and Alan were friendly and knowledgeable guides. We spent quite a lot of time in the water with about 5 playful seals and even had a big bull swim through! The water was a bit murky, but it was great to see the seals playing in the water and watch them relaxing on land.
Unfortunately we couldn't hop in with the dolphins, but there were there on the opposite side of the bay playing in the waves. A hot milo and some biccies were welcomed as was the sun! We were sad to leave and look forward to returning in 2017!

TIPS- take 2 towels (one for the boat and one to dry off back at the house), if it's windy/chilly, socks/shoes and beanie are recommended.
Also, phone service is not the best at Baird Bay so be patient if you can't contact the team straight away.

“Best day ever!!”
Reviewed 20 September 2016

Without exaggeration I can say this was our favourite single day activity on any holiday we have ever done. If you love animals you cannot miss this. It is a world-class experience (although I'm kind of afraid that by raving about it, it might become too popular!). Alan and Patricia are down to earth, great people and they take care of all of their guests. Baird Bay is a real pain to get to, but it is SO worth all the hassle. We can't wait to get back there.

Some tips: Opt for the full wetsuits, not the springsuits. We went in summer and the springsuit people were all shivering after a while and couldn't stay in the water as long. So sad considering you want as much time playing with the sealions as possible!

“Highly recommeded”
Reviewed 15 September 2016 via mobile

We joined at cold windy morning. Alan and Patricia are friendly. The crew, Jack, is helpful with sunshine smiles boy. Although the weather is quiet cold, the sea lions are cute and active. And there is over 20 dolphins over the other coast. That is amazing. Transportation may be little bit far away from Port Lincoln. But we must say that it is worth and must to do list at Eyre Peninsula.

Thank you all again for your reviews. Yes, we are back in action, started again on the 1st of September, and what a great way to start. The Sea Lions and Dolphins were out to say "welcome back", I'm sure they miss the interaction during the winter months. And speaking of winter months, we are still having them! It is cool, the water is also still cool, about 13 degrees at present, but looks like warming up soon according to forecasts and charts. Be assured our 5mm long wetsuits will keep you warm while in the water, and if the sun is out it is a bonus. I'm sure we will get some warm weather shortly, it is time for it to start. And another bonus, we observed a brown pup playing in close to the island, probably about 3 months old, and by his/her actions I would say he was a late birth from our island, so that would make 22 live pups last season which is the best we have seen in all our years here.
So pick a good day and come and enjoy a great day out with our marine mammal family, it will be a wildlife adventure to remember for the rest of your life.

What a great morning to snorkel with these beautiful creatures in there natural environment!
This place is untouched and is how it should be!
The guys that run the tour are very friendly and know the area and animals extremely well.
We stayed in streaky bay and ventured back and so glad we did! Worth every penny and will be back one day! Incredible experience.

So our season is nearly over again, one month to go and we will pack up at the end of May and leave the Sea Lions and Dolphins to some peace and quiet for the winter.
We have had an amazing season, the weather the best we have seen for many years with calm seas and little wind. And our Sea Lions have bettered themselves once again with a great pupping season, 21 live pups. The numbers are increasing, things couldn't be better. Strangely enough, we have only seen 2 or 3 out in the water, so they are late swimmers, but we know they will all be out and about by the beginning of September looking to entertain us with their antics, cheeky grins and big brown eyes.
And the Dolphins have been great too, putting on some great close up encounters during the year. There have been up to 6 new calves at times, but sadly 2 of our resident females have lost calves, Sanna lost her fist calf, and Slash her fifth, so they were unhappy days for all. Slash still has her other 4 kids close by, and we hope Sanna will be lucky next time.
We would like to thank all our customers for coming on our tour, thank those of you who have posted favourable comments, and be assured we appreciate your effort to do this, and we regret not being able to make some of you happy, but we will keep trying. And our biggest thanks are to the Sea Lions and Dolphins who make this unique tour possible, without them we have nothing.
