Just finished an awesome 5 day tour with Mick as our trusty guide. His wealth of knowledge and love of the island really shines through. On the 5 day tour we were able to make it to see more than just the top trafficked sites like Sandy Cape Lighthouse - which most people don’t get to. Sunrover are the only tour company with permits to get you there! We stayed at Eurong Resort which catered our breakfast & dinner each day, lunches on the go were wraps & fruit- always enough. I would definitely recommend Sunrover. Small group tours rather than the hoards bustling on & off the big busses or the ‘very young’ backpacker type tagalong tours suited us with our teenage kids. Great experience had by all. Thanks Mick.

Had a once in a lifetime experience thanks to our guide, Meaghan. Her vast knowledge, experience, exceptional driving and great sense of humour made this one of the best trips my family have ever done. Having read other reviews we feel so lucky to have had Meaghan as our guide and will treasure the memories of this fabulous island.
Thanks again Meaghan - you were BRILLIANT

These guys ruined our holiday from the UK!!! Firstly when booking on an external website be sure to check who the provider is.

We booked this tour on a website called fraser-tours (not knowing it was basically sun rover). Firstly we spoke to them on live chat and paid 1300AUD. We confirmed pick up locations from our noosa motel, however they decided not to honour this and we were told we had to make our way to another pick up location. We accepted this as they wouldn't compromise to pick us up.

A day before the tour we got an email from Trevor (sunrover) to say there were changes to our tour. We called them at 8.45am to be told to call back at 9am. When we refused, he then basically told us the tour was cancelled!!! I was disgusted by this. Although they knew the tour was cancelled they still for some reason wanted us to call back and not tell us immediately. They offered no solution and basically didn't care. Now we were facing the prospect of having no accommodation for the next 3 days and no transfer back to Brisbane as agreed.

Even to this day we have not had an apology. The reason they cancelled the tour was because other customers cancelled. What angers me is, their cancellation policy states they will keep 100% of the payment with no refunds unless you cancel giving more than 7 days notice. We were told the others cancelled a day before, which means sunrover would be keeping the full amount the other customers paid, and rather than honouring and respecting us as paying customers they decided to cancel us with 1 day notice! WHY? because they wanted to make money without offering a service. Had they taken us on the tour, they would have not been at a loss, seeing as they were keeping the cancelled customers money plus gaining ours.

Thankfully our motel were great in arranging a 1 day tour for us, and rearranging customers so we could stay 3 more days there. In the end we got a refund, but as a matter of principle I would like to share my experience. Book with other companies!! Locals had not heard of sunrover but could recommend other companies who were more reliable. Also book a tour where there are no daily fees. These guys charge 30AUD per day per person which basically takes the rip. On our 1 day tour we paid 1 price with no hidden charges. Fraser island was great make sure you go but with well known companies. Good luck.

I am very sorry your tour was cancelled.
We wait as long as possible before cancelling any tour as one phone call can be the difference between running and cancelling.
Unfortunately, we cannot run a tour without minimum numbers being met. If we ran tours with 2 people to Fraser Island from Brisbane every week we'd be out of business! - Instead, we have been running for nearly 30 years.

Regarding the other people cancelling, they were from an agent, NOT direct booking. We made NO money from their cancellation as you suggest.

In regards to your pick up - we do not offer hotel pick ups. As clearly stated in all our brochures and on our website, we have set points at each pick up location.

You will also find our fees & charges clearly stated on both our brochures and our website. There are NO 'hidden charges'.

I was part of the 3 day kingfisher tour that ran from the 16th - 18th April. From the moment we were picked up, Meaghan made us all feel extremely welcome and interested in our backgrounds and reasons for visiting Australia. The tour was amazing with incredible knowledge and expert driving from Meagham. Being the first time visiting Australia and Fraser Island, this was made to be a once in a lifetime experience that I will not be forgetting. Can not fault any part of the trip and would highly recommend doing this trip, especially with a guide as good as Meaghan. The resort was fantastic and made the evenings so relaxing. 10/10 for an overal great trip.

Went on a two day/ one night Fraser Island tour. Initially booked for a date and then told less than 24 hours before that this wouldn't be going ahead.
After about four voicemail messages and numerous emails managed to get a response and rebooked - though I wish I'd just gone with the refund.

Fraser Island is beautiful and I camped in a lovely location and the facilities were adequate - hence the two stars.

However what did let it down was:

1. The transportation: after settling ourselves in we were told that there was no air-con, no radio and the speedometer was broken. It was later found that half of the seatbelts in the back were either missing or defective (the group tour was a total of eight). There was a Bluetooth speaker which meant that one of the group played endless Ed Sheeran, Oasis and Shakira.

2. The driving: the terrain on the Fraser Island is certainly not flat so there is obviously an expectation of a bumpy ride, however the driver seemed to delight in riding rough shod to hear the squeals from those in the back. He seemed to always be surprised b the break pedal which meant harsh stops and people being thrown around.

3. The racism: the tour was led by an "Australian" (and I only say Australian in quotations, as I mean not a native of the country). His views on the indigenous population was inflammatory at best - they being simple and ungrateful that people took over their land and killed and enslaved them. Thankfully (and yes I mean this sarcastically) these weren't the only brown people that he took against and rated about "PC gone mad" - the debate around the nursery rhyme ba ba black sheep was interesting.

The only positive(?) thing I would add is that his racism seems to borne of ignorance rather than malice.

4. I assume he is a fan of Clive Palmer as along with as along with his views on "other Australians" his views on gun control were insightful.

His knowledge of the island and the animals were very good and had he stuck to that it would have been lovely - or at least gauged the temperament of the group, before espousing his rhetoric.

Though one in my group did find a hole in her tent (which led to waking up to find a mouse in with her); the accommodation was nice and sleeping to the sound of the ocean was lovely. The food was plentiful and well cooked so no complaints there.
