Carrying on…

2.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 13 Aug 2019
A workmanlike place that carries on doing what is does. Staff are nice even if they won't serve whisky without ice. The views of the ocean or mountains can be good. Location is central. The place could do with a refurbishment and this trip I was sad to see the wine-tasting restaurant is now only available for private functions. But that gives you two other restaurants to choose from, and the seedy tavern attached. The price is affordable.

Stayed for 3 days with our two children. Purpose was to give our kids an outing and central surfers paradise was the destination. While Crowne is not in Surfers it's access via the new tram system, with stop being right at front door, makes it so convenient. Buffet breaky was great and was not an issue when they had to adjust a setting.
Staff very pleasant and nice clean rooms.
Will stay again.

I have stayed at the CP Surfers many times over the years and generally been happy. Whilst I wouldn't call it a 5 star hotel (places like the Fairmont and Four Season Hotels are certainly a cut above this place) I would give it a solid 4.
Until today. I checked in with my daughter who is a mid teen and told upon checking in that the 2 Breakfasts included in our price do not include children, that it only covered me and would I like to add a breakfast to the bill for her.
No! Seriously do not get why a child can't be included. It's time these hotels came into the 21st century and realise that when only 2 people are checking in and there is 2 free breakfasts in the deal, then it shouldn't matter that 1 is a child. They should be happy given little mouths won't cost as much to feed. Ridiculous! Didn't have this problem at all when I stayed up the road at the Marriott.

Dear RABS6471,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent breakfast experience with us.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience caused to you due to the confusion around inclusion of breakfast for 2 Adults and not for the child.

In our Relish restaurant breakfast for children aged between 5 - 12 yrs is charged at kids price and above 12 yrs age full price. However we are certainly flexible if number of people included on the booking with breakfast is what are checking in the room. Unless this is not advised at reception the team is unaware of the total number of guests that will be staying in the room is less 1 adult and replaced by the child.

Please do let me know once your travels bring you back to Surfers Paradise and I will be very happy to personally oversee your stay arrangements for you.

Kind regards

dont expect anything of high standard from this hotel even though its 5 star.
They cant simply afford free water bottles for $450 per night room booking and when i asked for it then operator told me that drinking water in Australia is safe so we dont give complimentary water...... HAHAHA What a joke but trust me guys its true.Dont forget am talking about 5 star hotel CROWNE PLAZA.
I dont know why u run a hotel if u cant afford to hire staff and can provide quality service to your customers.

Room tip: Try to ignore this hotel if u r looking for 5 star service.

Had a wonderful stay at Crown. Apartment clean with awesome views. Didn't need house cleaning so they sent up a block of chocolate as a thank you. Nice touch. Hotel well signed and the breakfast was great. The conference was great and Crown staff were super helpful. Would definitely stay again. Highly recommend.

Stayed here for 3 nights for recent conference. My reservation got messed up and while I had requested an ocean view room with 2 beds, apparently I did not catch than my confirmation stated a king bed, which wouldn't work for me and my teenaged son. The hotel's first response was that it was too bad, for two beds I'd have to go into a standard room on a lower floor with no view while still paying the higher rate because rates were higher now than when I originally booked. Was not satisfied with that and, to their credit, the hotel managed to work it out and give me an ocean view room with two beds as I wanted. That was the good news. The other good news was a very nice breakfast buffet every morning.

The room itself had a terrific view, but was otherwise mediocre. The carpet was stained, the decor pretty nonexistent, the robes were scratchy and not soft enough to be comfortable. The hotel is a few blocks from the beach, which is also nice. Otherwise, the neighborhood seemed drab - at least the parts that I saw. I believe there are nicer areas of Surfer's Paradise which I saw from the windows of a tour bus I took to see the glow worm caves, but just didn't experience them firsthand.

Overall, this is not a place I would probably stay if I was going to SP for fun, but I was there for an event so just stayed where the event was. That said, the place is not very expensive, and I did not really expect too much more for the value.

Room tip: Select a high floor with an ocean view

Dear Mara108,

Thank you for taking the time to share with us your valuable review. I am pleased to see that the team were able to get you into a more appropriate room type and that your both thoroughly enjoyed the Relish Breakfast Buffet. I am sorry to hear of your disappointment with the room decor and amenities and I will be sure to pass this feedback along to the Hotels Leadership team for future review. I am also sorry to hear of your disappointment with the location as many guest find it very enjoyable to be in a quieter area of Surfers Paradise and find it very easy still to get to the main hustle and bustle of Cavil Avenue using the light rail on our door step. I hope these thing have not deterred you from allowing us another chance in the future to warmly welcome you back again.
