We arrived a day early for a two-day conference to be held at the hotel.
We arrived a few minutes after 10 p.m. after a long flight from Hawaii. The hotel has two towers. The reception desk is in the main tower. Our room is in the Gold Tower, and we were directed to a separate set of elevators at the other end of a long hallway. The elevators quickly got us up to the 7th floor, and we never had a wait going up or down.
As we checked in, we were advised that room service would still be available until 10:30. That advice was much appreciated, as we were able to get up to our room, quickly scan the room service menu, and place an order before they closed up for the night.
The room service proved to be a mixed experience. We ordered two sandwiches. They were okay, somewhat ordinary, but with decent ingredients. However, we only received one napkin and one set of utencils. But, so far, that’s the only small negative we’ve experienced.
The room is a good size, with a desk, a small table, a couch to sit on, and a balcony with a partial ocean view and two chairs and small table. The room has a decent television, a small refrigerator stocked with hotel-priced drinks along with a few snacks. Everything was clean, and the room looks like it might have been recently refurbished. If not, it’s been kept in vary good shape.
We don’t usually partake of the mini-bar options, but with our late arrival, we were glad to see a bottle of decent red wine among the choices. Not inexpensive, but in line with the normal hotel pricing common pretty much everywhere.
There’s an electric pot in the bathroom to heat water for tea, although it took some hunting to find the tea, hidden in a drawer along with mugs and wine glasses.
There’s an in-room safe, always appreciated. The bathroom has a jetted tub and a separate shower. The down side is the absence of a towel rack or hook within reach of the shower. There were three good-size bath towels, certainly adequate but not to be confused with luxurious.
There’s a light rail stop right across from the hotel entrance that runs the length of Surfers Paradise. With the conference going on, we haven’t had a chance to go exploring, but on a different kind of trip it would certainly be convenient.
There are only a few restaurants within a short walk of the hotel, but many others with a 1-mile radius, enough to take care of our needs.
The grounds and gardens are nicely maintaned, as are the hotel’s lobby areas and meeting rooms.
All in all, I would easily recommend the Crowne Plaza if you’re going to be in the area.
