Loved it so much. Haven't been to Surfers Paradise since I was a child. Thought it was too grotty and dangerous. Was great to stay somewhere so lovely in the heart of everything we could retreat to with the children.

We loved staying in a 30th floor 2 bedroom apartment - very elegant, with an amazing view of the city and sea. We booked using Gold Coast Luxury Resorts (a friend told us about them), rather than booking through Peppers and save literally, thousands (we booked for two lots of two week periods over winter). The Soul building is a fabulous place to stay, the pools are great for the kids, although a bit more heating would be great in the main pools, the spas are nice and hot. Overall, the building is pristine, and you couldn't get a better Surfers Paradise location - straight across from the beach, and next door to Cavill Mall. The night markets are just across the road three times a week, and a row of great restaurants are right outside. This is why we went back twice - it was an ideal to get away from Southern states cold and have some winter fun!

Room tip: I don't think you're going to get a bad room, but the higher you go, the better your view!

While Peppers is a lovely hotel, we were disappointed by the shortcuts taken when considering the price. We shared the accommodation with another family and while the master bedroom was comfortable, the smaller bedrooms were very small with little air flow and incredibly uncomfortable beds (singles pushed together as doubles). There are not enough lifts in this building for the amount of floors/rooms so it's a long process to get up or down. Furnishings are outdated and with many sharp edges, not particularly suited to families with toddlers. Our only room service experience was disappointing when they brought us banana cake after we ordered chocolate brownie. When we questioned what was on the plate, they informed us they'd run out of brownie, not sure why we weren't told that when we ordered.... especially at $18 a plate! The pool is great, but only worth going to in the morning as it is covered by building shadow in the afternoon. Wifi is slow and drops out. Would likely choose different accommodation if we returned to Surfers.

Room tip: Higher is better although be prepared to wait longer for the lift to get you to your room
