We stayed at Niramaya for four days around our 25th wedding anniversary. We were greeted warmly by Mia who is definately an asset to this property.
On entering Villa 8 we were immediately taken with the design and spaciousness of the villa which really has everything you need for a good break, European appliances and generally quality fittings and fixtures. We noted that as is common with properties in FNQ maintenance is a real issue here and there were some issues which need to be dealt with.
The air conditioning didn’t work in the living area. We didn’t realise this until the third day as it had not been too hot but the third day was over 30degrees and that was when we discovered the AC didn’t work. Thankfully it worked in the bedroom.
The bedroom had a sliding door leading to the pool area. Even when it was locked it still slid across on either side to allow entry to bedroom.
There was a leak in the toilet meaning that there was a trail of water across the room - cool surprise in the middle of the night walking barefoot in the dark!
The seal on the fridge door needed replacing which meant that the alarm on the fridge was going almost constantly no matter how firmly the door was pushed closed.
I agree with another reviewer who said that the kitchen cupboards touch hinges mostly don’t work but as far as the glassware, crockery and other kitchen accoutrements, they were all good quality and clean.
The gardens around Niramaya are exceptionally beautiful and very well maintained. The pools are clean and well looked after. I agree some of the furniture needs new covering due to earlier tenants and spillages.
On the whole, Niramaya is a beautiful private oasis that needs a little tweaking. Close enough to Port Douglas so you can nip in for supplies, lunch/dinner etc but far enough away to be peaceful and private.
Would we return? At the price paid we would expect those few maintenance issues to be resolved but on the whole Niramaya is a beautiful serene addition to the Port Douglas accommodation market.

Our family really loved our five day stay at Niramaya. The private pool was a massive hit with our four year old and the villa had everything we needed making it easy to self cater. Proximity to the shops and the Wildlife Experience animal sanctuary was brilliant. We will be back for sure.

The villas are very spacious and well designed for the climate with a private plunge pool straight off the bedroom. Large living room with well appointed kitchen. We had over 600mm of rain during our stay and having such a stunning villa made it bearable without feeling too cooped up.

One of the most amazing and well looked after resorts we have stayed at.
Gardens and the outlay is world class.
Villas are well maintained, although not sure if all units are standard, but beds are way to low for the older generation.
There seems to be a few privately owned units for rent so may be worth a call.
Not knowing the rest of the resort infrastructure may have different types of beds.
Good for families although a bit out of town, but buses and shuttles run around the area, close to supermarkets.

Niramaya villas wow! Just wow! Loved our stay. The villas are outstanding and very luxurious. Great kitchen and laundry too. The complex itself is very nice with great common pool and gorgeous gardens. There were a few things that did draw out some negatives:
- restaurant and pool menu limited and complicated with no fresh or basic options
- The restaurant is too high end. Not enough options and very expensive. Lovely for a special night out but not suited for a resort restaurant. Doesn’t have enough of a range and not good for families. If you wanted that high end dining you would go into town.
- Breakfast even if it’s inclusive you have to pay for add ons even tomato sauce!
- Pool service was also lacking. This takes away from the resort feel.
- Villas not serviced everyday which made it feel less like a holiday they charge up to $150 a day if you request your villa to be cleaned daily. Even if they offered a daily service of fresh towels and to make bed it would be better. A holiday is all about freshly made beds and new towels daily!

Besides this we had a wonderful time and hope to return soon.
