The Good - It's close to the airport; Check-in was a breeze; Staff was friendly; on site parking.
The Bad - just about everything else.
We were there for 1 night because we had a very early flight. The rooms are in a 'sound box' designed so every door that opens reverberates throughout the building. And there are entry doors and bedroom doors. The tap in our bathroom did not close so water dripped all night. We heard our neighbors in the shower! The tired can sleep when the rest of the patrons get in and are safely in their rooms - doors banging can keep you up.

Room tip: Try to avoid rooms on McLeod Street

Hi David - Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay with us. We try our best to remind guests to try and be quiet when entering and leaving their rooms and the buildings but you can only do so much ..... some people just don't take others into consideration. We could not get a plumber to come out on the one night you were here but the tap was fixed the very next day. I've gone and bought about 25 metres of foam strip which I will be fitting to all of the door frames to eliminate the sounds of doors closing so hopefully that will help eliminate that source of noise - Brian

I stayed here not expecting much. Its been very busy in Cairns and I booked last minute. Could of paid high end prices to stay in a named brand hotel but decided to give this hotel a go at under half the price the big names were looking for and what a gem it is.
First of all thed hotel has a family feel. The check in lady was extremely helpful and polite. Nothing was too much trouble and she helped me book onto a last minute tour.
So ok the furniture and decor may be a bit dated but it is perfect. The apartments are nice and roomy and have everything you need. Most of all they are extremely clean and the bed is comfy.
Yes the hotel is a bit further out of town but it is a 20min walk into town and the reef fleet terminal.
Across the road is a full range of take aways and eateries. 24hr supermarket etc. Hotel has a nice pool and garden area too.
I think this hotel is excellent value for money and would be ideal for families on a budget as you have all the necessaties to organised your own breakfasts etc. I would definitely stay here again and I have stayed in a few hotels in Cairns and this is most definitely the best value for money.
Ps. I have read some reviews on here where people have mentioned musty smells. Please remember people its the tropics and unless you have experienced a wet season you have no idea how hard it is to keep not only smells but mould at bay and these owners seem to do an excellent job of both.

Hi Sarah - WOW, that's the longest review I think I've ever read. Thank you for taking the time to provide some feedback. We as well think the Grosvenor is a great alternative to high priced inner City hotels. We have never sought to portray the Grosvenor as a Resort or luxury accommodation but what the we are is a great base from which to explore all that Cairns has to offer. It's often the case that our accommodation is about half the price of similar accommodation at a large corporate hotel.... and yes, it can be a challange keeping the rooms fresh, especially during 'wet' season but we always try our best and all anyone has to do is mention a problem to us and we will do all we can to fix it up straight way. We do appreciate your comments and i will pass them onto all the staff here.

Check in was easy ad friendly. Rooms were clean and safe. Several eating options close by, and many more eating and shopping within 1 mile walking. Rooms were quiet. Wifi is available, but limited. Not much to do on site, but Cairns has many attractions, including this thing call the Great Barrier Reef. I highly recommend Eco Tour Safari.

FREE 4G WiFi, FREE calls to all Australian phone numbers (including mobiles but excluding 'special' numbers, FREE INTERNATIONAL calls to 6 countries (USA, UK, NZ, Hong Kong, China and India) and it's pre-loaded with maps, restaurant and shopping information and tours & activities information for the greater Cairns area. It's yours for the duration of your stay and you can take it out with you (terms and conditions do apply).
We have never portrayed the Grosvenor as a Resort or luxury hotel. Guests who wish to stay in that type of accommodation should book at an inner city corporate hotel .... but will probably pay twice the price. What we do have is clean, comfortable and well located serviced apartments and Studios that are an ideal base from which to explore all Cairns has to offer. Stayed here for 5 nights in a one bedroom apartment. Apartment was nice and clean and comfortable. Bed was comfy and for me, it had heavy curtains which is a plus plus as I hate light first thing in the morning! Staff were lovely and helpful. The only downside for people with bad joints, there is no elevator but I'm sure you could ask for first floor. The free wifi wasn't working first few days and to be honest when it was up, we couldn't connect so we gave up. Pool area looked lovely but it rained the whole time so we didn't use it. The only downside for us was there was a washing machine but no dryer. Being that it rained the whole time we were here we didn't wash as we couldn't dry our clothing quickly. I'm sure this is not a issue generally speaking. All in all, we had a lovely time here and would recommend to others. If you love dogs, say hi to Jazz as he is the most affectionate little dog. Thanks for our stay.

All apartments contain a clothes washer and a clothes drying rack but generally no electric dryer.... however the guest laundry does contain an electric dryer which is free to use.
....and yes, there is no lift, we are a 3 story 'walk up'. If being on the 2nd or 3rd floor is a problem for some guests (and we understand that) all they need to do when booking is ask about being on the ground floor (there are 8 steps up to the ground floor) and we will do all we can to accommodate them.

The apartment was large and comfortable. The hosts were helpful and friendly. The only down side was that we were on the 3rd floor with no lift and our washing machine was faulty. The smoke alarm appeared to be broken. The pool was nice and we used the resort laundry after having a problem with the washing machine. Handy location. Would stay there again.

Hi Richard - Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay with us. We do apologise about the washing machine (it has now been fixed). The Grosvenor is a '3 story walk up' and yes there is no lift (as is the case with most smaller accommodation providers in Cairns). If guests would prefer to be on the ground floor all they have to do is ask at the time of booking and we will always try to accommodate them.
