I did 3 days on the Reef Experience liveaboard. The rooms were luxurious, the food was delicious, and most of the staff were great (esp the captain, Sam, who went out of his way to be friendly with guests, and John and Jackson from the diving staff). The dive sites are unbelievable: turtles, cuttlefish, octopuses, sharks, and colorful reefs teeming with vibrant life.

Unfortunately, I saw two of the dive masters having their groups feed the turtles, and encouraging their divers to pick up sea cucumbers. It's really disappointing to see a company that promotes its respect of the reef having its representatives disrespect the reef with guests.

This is definitely a beginner dive boat. Most divers in my cohort had <20 dives, and the staff takes good care of you: limiting your time underwater and depth so they can keep you safe. If future reviews show their staff is respectful of the ocean life, I think this is a good choice if you're a beginner diver.

But if you're advanced (50+ dives), you'd be better off joining one of the advanced liveaboards that won't restrict your dive time, and will take you to deeper, less-crowded sites. I also did Spirit of Freedom and highly recommend it for advanced divers.

On board a wave piercing catamaran to view the Great Barrier Reef. This had dive snorkel or viewing from a dry location to view the Corel. Lots of opportunities to snorkel with limited swimming ability as lifeguards were always watching. The dive potential was very good as well as those who chose not to get wet enjoyed a satisfying day. Lunch was provided and it was very good....from fresh fruit to hot dishes...as much as you want.
I was impressed with the crew as they did double duty...on the boat to and from Port Douglas and on the platform where they had an assigned duty. The number of people looking out for guest did not go unnoticed. This is a must do excursion!!

Had a wonderful time with these guys. Done an intro dive and some snorkeling on two different reefs along the great barrier Reef. The guide were excellent and very knowledgeable and were on hand for any questions we had. It was my first dive and I always felt safe and relaxed under the water.

The only negative was the cost of the photos at the end $20 for one digital photo I thought was a bit much. Could get all photos for $89 either. This is more expensive then your second give if you wished to do one. Granted the camera equipment was probably experience I just felt they were trying to squeeze cash out of us.

Second time on reef encounter, but first time on top deck, and the experience was amazing.
We were greeted by our personal instructor Kristi May on board reef experience that would transfer us to reef encounter from the wharf, and god she was passionate. She had prepared our course in details in her folder and made sure we were having fun while studying it.
On top of the instructions she provided, she was our personal valet as well. Making our rooms when we were having breakfast, or setting up the table on the sun deck for our dinner, and even bring the food to our room. No idea how she did it when she was still up by midnight but would bring coffee to the room before 6 so we could do the first morning dive! It was definitely a 5-star hotel experience. Will definitely be back for the advanced course.
What else.. Food was nice, photographer Frank was a real pro, everyone was friendly, highly recommend this. If you want to enjoy a true GBR experience, spend at least couple days on reef encounter and if you got that extra penny, book the top deck club, (definitely ask for Kristi but please spare few days for us)
