My family and I visited Zoom and found it quite depressing. The day we went it was raining pretty heavily and we needed an umbrella as we were walking around the 'zoo' due to the amount of water coming through the roof. We assumed this was part of the 'ambiance', but when we asked a staff member about it, we were told that it was due to the deteriorating roof that needed to be repaired.
This didn't really bother us too much, but it was surprising how much water was coming through which highlighted how bad the structure of the roof was.
The main concern we all had was the treatment of the animals, but most of all was the poor koala that they threw about for photos. My husband and I both paid for a photo (around $20) and as we were lining up waiting to hold him, we started to really regret our decision. The koala was put on people for literally a minute (if that) for a very quick photo to be taken, and promptly snatched off you and the next person was called (it was literally "next person", "put your hands together" (hold koala and smile - koala grabbed off you) "next person"). It was by no means a calm and gentle treatment of the koala and the poor thing had definitely seen better days. The fluff on his ears was ratty and thin, there was hardly no fur on him and you could see the wrinkles in his skin. I thought it was possibly due to age and asked a staff member, but was told that the koala was still reasonably quite young. Every other koala I've seen in person has been very fluffy all over, and the carers have always been extremely gentle with them.
This treatment wasn't nice to see.
Besides the treatment of animals, it was also quite expensive as nothing is included in the entry price. Before we arrived, both my brother and I were both looking forward to doing the various activities, but decided not to bother paying extra.
