Excellent way to get up to Kuranda. It's a very scenic trip in slow motion with a couple of stops. Great way to appreciate the rainforest in comfort, the old fashioned way.

The Kuranda train trip from Cairns up to Karanda is an absolutely unmissable adventure. Winding through the rainforest marvelling at the vistas across the plains of Cairns through to the Great Barrier Reef you can even see Green Island on a clear day. Marvel at the engineering feet and consider the men who constructed this with such rudimentary instruments all those years ago. The commentary is amazing. If you can afford it, I highly recommend the Gold class as you are treated to a ride in an amazing cabin with a dedicated attendance and a served beautiful food and drinks while you admire the scenery pass by. And experience not to be missed.

We purchased the Skyrail and Kuranda Rail combination where we could go up to Kuranda via train from Cairns Station and return on the skyrail with a bus transfer back to the train station. A bit pricey for this combo at $135 each (May 2024) but an awesome experience and well worth doing while in Cairns. Customer service was fantastic with tour operators offering to move to a better seat in a less busy carriage.

It was a great way to learn about and experience the history of the Kuranda Rail Line. I would highly recommend this tour

One of the best tours I have taken by in my life.. I was extremely lucky to go on this ride after they spent months repairing the tracks from a Cyclone that hit in December. I took the 1st train and the last train for this tour.

We just returned from the Kuranda Scenic Train and Skyrail trip. In our opinion this tour was terrific in all aspects. First of all, the train was not crowded. My wife and. I had our own two rows to ourselves. Although a very hot day we were smart enough to bring our own very chilled water. The scenery and commentary on the way was informative and interesting. The stop at the Barren Waterfall was very interesting and got great pics. Arriving at Kuranda we had a nice lunch and walked around the town full of souvenirs and Australian made goods. We made our way to the Reforestation shuttle and spent about 2 hours watching many interesting Australian species and we got to see a crocodile feeding which was so cool. We also went on an army duck boat ride through the land and water of the rainforest. Our driver and guide introduced us to so many different plant species and we were lucky enough to see a turtle and an owl basking in the sun. We saw a few of the blue butterfly only found there. Terrific time there. We took the bus shuttle back to the Skyrail terminal and had a great ride back to Smithfield, with 2 short interesting on and off stops. We did have to wait about an hour for the tour bus to take us back to our Cairns hotel. We refused to let that take anything away from our almost perfect day in Kuranda. We booked through Viator but many on the trip used different operators.
