I went the Freshwater Station to Kuranda route and it was spectacular. Very informative and such stunning views. I was lucky enough to sit near a window but it is very open so sitting elsewhere would have still been awesome. The stop at the falls was beautiful.

Did this train trip 33 years ago. Was much as I remember it. Though now they have a guide over the loud speaker advising you what to look out for. The train stops at Barron Falls to get a good snap. Definitely worth a go if you have a free day in Cairns. We traveled up on the skyrail gondola & back on the train. If you can get a seat on the left of the train because nearly everything is on the left heading back into Cairns. The train is an old rattler, took me back in time, but is very comfortable. Maybe in the future they should invest in a couple of those open /clear roof/side cabins like in Canada etc to get a better view.

We went and booked for package tour with coach, the scenery and village of Kuranda was beautiful, the train and sky cable must try as you will regret if you don't and miss your opportunity whilst in Cairns, one of the best experienced that we had so far in our holiday in port Douglas and pal cove. Kuranda have all deferent shops and food stall, we did actually had fun and enjoyed the whole package... We are definitely coming back here in future with friends and family.

Forget the cost, you have to travel up to Kuranda on the scenic railway and back on the Skyrail.

The train is slow but the scenery is great and the view of the Barron Falls is great.

Water was not flowing very quickly when we were there, but can imagine it would be good after rains.

Plenty to do in Kuranda when you get there.
