A really pleasant way to spend a day - travelling to Kuranda on the railway and back on the cable car. We tried to upgrade to Gold Class on the train but were told it needed to be done at the time of booking (which is contrary to what the agent told us) but did upgrade to Diamond View on the cable car which was well worth it.

OMG>>> What should I start with, the complete train ride is sooooo boring not worth a penny, literally half the guys on board were dozing off to sleep. And its pretty expensive on the pocket. Not worth at all. Waste of time and money.
The train is in a good condition but the route is so long and so boring. Not Scenic at all.
If your from India dont board this train we have many many more Scenic places that we have seen,
Well the skyrail ride is okay i.e if you havent sat in any before..
Dont take this as an adventure tour or a family tour too its just boring.

Picked up at our hotel and taken to an interesting station, boarded the train, a little crowded. Two stops on the way up to view waterfall and take photos. At Kurunda we opted to see the butterfly house, interesting talk and amazing butterflies. We were taken to a BBQ and salad lunch, walked around a small zoo, and were entertained by boomerang throwing, didgeridoo music and dance. Caught the sky rail - 8 kms trip over the rainforest - amazing.

After living in Cairns for 10 years I never took the time to take a trip on The Scenic Railway and I certainly missed out. We decided to take our 3 children on the train up to Kuranda and so pleased we did we all had a wonderful time. The information provided about the train and the building of the railway is truly an amazing story especially to think of when it was built and the workmanship, soft that went into it. You travel through 15 tunnels on this journey that the kids loved and it makes you take the time to think how lucky we are. After reading other reviews we chose to travel on Gold Class which if you can afford to is well worth it. You receive a personalized talk on the carriage and then you can have a welcome drink to start - wine, beer , soft drink or coffee. We were then served a great selection of small snacks which were delicious and went down well. After this another drink was served before we arrived at the stop to view the Barron Falls. This really was one of the highlights of our trips and well worth the money

If visiting Cairns I think this is a must do but it will set you back $110 per person. The took the skyrail up and it was spectacular. We upgraded to the gold class train coming back which was an additional $50 pp which gave us better seats, 3 drinks, nuts, cheese platter and mango icecream. We really liked Kuranda and had a great lunch at the pub near the markets and then pottered around the markets.
