Truly enjoyed riding the Skyrail on the way there and the train on our way back. We did not enjoy the ride back because the train was way packed and too many rude people on the train.

You can drive to Kuranda if you want to go, or ride the cable car. I was not impressed with the train or the place. Kuranda is full of shops and food. It's like a carnival, not a rain forest.

What a journey this is!! Totally stunning start to finish we absolutly loved it. Great comfy train and they try to spreed people out so that you can all see out the windows and not bunched with loads of people. The train slows on the bridge to be able to get pictures of the views ans waterfalls and they warn you in advance so you can have your cameras ready :) great commentry the whole way so you learn loads about it. Amazing views that everyone will love. Great for all the family. Staff were great and very helpful and they even come round and took pictures of couples/familys for them so they had a group shot on the train which was a lovely touch. Recommended experience!!

The Kuranda scenic railway takes you about 300 m up from Freshwater station to Kuranda. It is one of the main attractions of Cairns region. During the trip you get a feel for the enormous efforts made to construct 15 tunnels and 37 bridges by hand. The ride is impressive, with beautiful lookouts into the Barron river valley. Unfortunately the most spectucular waterfall of them all, the Barron river fall, has dried up due to a power plant. The trip is best combined with a return ride on the Sky Rail back into the valley from Kuranda to Freshwater and Cairns

We took the train from cairns station and upgraded to gold class which was totally worth it! The views were breathtaking and the commentary was informative. The attendant in the coach was very helpful and polite. I had a couple of beers and my wife had a glass of wine. We were also served muffins and a mango dessert. All this was part of the fare. We took the skyrail back which was good too but I definitely enjoyed the train ride more.
