Had a great stay at the CCCR. Rooms are pretty standard with comfy beds and decent bathrooms. Aircon available but we used fan only.

After a very busy month in QLD visiting friends and family I wanted a few quiet days to myself relaxing before flying back to NZ.

Booking the CCCR was a great decision - multiple pools to relax by - all beautiful, and great food, coffee and alcoholic drinks available! The pork belly & asian salad was incredible!

My only worry was that it would be loud and busy with young families, but it was still fairly quiet and peaceful - having multiple pools helps!

It is away from the town centre, which was exactly why I chose this place - I wanted a few days to just relax and go nowhere - but for others the location may be inconvenient if they don’t have a car.

Room tip: Try the pork belly & asian salad!

Colonial Club is far from the town centre. Staff are ok but not super friendly. The hotel has nothing to offer that would warrant stay there in exchange for the inconvenience of location. You definitely would need a car.

We couldn’t agree with you more that our location allows our guests to enjoy 11 acres of lush gardens and 3 lagoon pools.

We do hope you were able to take some time to relax and unwind in our resort style leisure facilities throughout your stay.

I stayed here over 30years ago and was looking to a renovated room but was bitterly disappointed with the filthy room we stayed in! Mould, dust, rust, stench, leaks, unsafe power points, stains to blankets…The lost is too high!! Wish I’d stayed in my car instead! Would not recommend!!!

Room tip: Don’t go! So disappointed with general state of cleanliness to the room! Needs a complete overhaul!!!

Arrived at 1030pm for a week, went straight to the room and slept. the very next morning we noted that the room has mouldy curtains, inside window ledge dirty, mould around bathroom basin, shower door handle broken, mould in shower, bed blanket was filthy had dog hair on it (yes, dog hair). Plus the ants, the walls a thin and you can here the snoring or night time ‘antics’ of you neighbours. Reported these issued to reception and were told on two consecutive days they would fix the room or move us - a move never happened. The rooms are not as portrayed in the brochures or website - they are tired, old, run down, unclean and not to the standard advertised.

Staff member said that we had been allocated a quiet refurbished room - OMG what does a non refurbished room look like?

67% staff were excellent and the other 33% just gave lip service and didn’t care.

Positive- the pool is fantastic and the Pizza kitchen had great well priced pizzas.

Overall - I cannot NOT recommend the Cairns Colonial Resort.

Room tip: Place is run down and rooms are dirty - the place is best avoided

It is what it is, tired and dated. The rooms are ok, clean and tidy. They are serviced daily to a good standard. The Pool Side Bar and Bistro is ok but a bit of same old, same old. The Pizza restaurant is arguably the pick with meals quite nice. Be careful where you book a room as the ones nearest the Pool Side Bar and Bistro are very noisy with young children in and around the play area. Also as it’s the main entrance, you have people coming and going at all hours.
Without a vehicle, it can become quite costly to travel in and out of town if and when the need arises.
I suggest it’s directed mainly for your young family groups who can hang around the pool with their kids and chill out at a reasonable cost.
Not really for me and won’t be back.

Dear John,
Thanks for taking the time to review your experience at the Cairns Colonial Club. I’m sorry the resort did not meet your expectations on this occasion. We do have many families staying with us especially leading up to the holidays which can result in a lot of activity around the main pool. We have two other large lagoon-style pools for those looking for more peaceful surrounds. We thank you again for your review and wish you all the very best for the future.
