Many reviews of this resort are quite negative, and wrongly so. It's a very nice place and they often have specials on their website and on WOTIF. We only paid $59/night and this was superb value. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Contrary to reviews, it is in a pleasant area and there's no problem in parking in the dtreet beside the hote.
The pools are wonderful, and the staff very helpful and friendly.
It is about 5 minutes drive from Cairns, but they have a shuttle and public buses are nearby.
A small shopping mall is across the road and has restaurants and many other shops. An excellent outlet complex(DFO) is just 5 minutes walk away.

We thoroughly recomment the Palm Royale

Stayed here in May just for the one niht on a trip to Port Douglas. The best part about this hotel was the rate, very reasonable for Cairns. The location is good, easy acces to town and a neaby shopping centre and Tavern. Only downside is that the hotel is a bit old now ( was buil about 20 years ago when I last lived in Cairns) needs a makeover, the staff were friendly and helpful, but the place smells of cleaning fluids, like the old style smell that was used in the old days! Don't think I would nstay here again

Room Tip: Try another Hotel first

We only had one night here but were thank ful to go. The saving grace was the beautiful pool, absolute standout and worth the night. Room was smelly with mould. I discovered the kettle was full of it and stank out the room. The staff are brilliant and yes did replace the kettle but really more care could be taken with housecleaning. I understand the wet tropics has a lot of mould but when this is the only place we struck like this i find it inexcusable. Beds comfortable but won't be coming back.

Room Tip: Upstairs is good.

I bought a package for three nights at this cesspool many miles from anything interesting in Cairns. The package advertised three nights for the price of two but that two nights could have been spent at one of Cairn's huge apartments as we did when we checked out of the Palm Royale.
Firstly, the reception staff member we came across was rude, condescending and arrogant.Yes,she (I think? ) may have called me " sir " but her demeanor and voice level meant she really meant " cur". There is very little onsite parking and what there is apparently is reserved for managerial 1970's vehicles and a rusty trailer, but you are welcome to park your hire car or your own pride and joy outside where the local street people will improve it by placing empty bottles of it ,urinating on the tyres and door handles and sitting on the bonnet. No exaggeration,I witnessed this from my room every night.Room cleaning staff were very nice and obviously working hard to clean this outdated mould infested dump but in general, staff were recent graduates of the Basil Fawlty School, led by a Penny Wong lookalike.
The lift stunk of hydraulic oil and something else, the latter obviously to cover the first smell but fighting an uphill battle.Air conditioning was barely working and contrary to Queensland Laws, ashtrays were provided on the little verandah overlooking the pool area. No,you don't have to smoke but I did get to share the expelled carcinogenic smoke from the occupants of other rooms.Very comforting to know I wasn't the only idiot conned by the " package" .
Access to the rooms is very narrow and two way pedestrian traffic with baggage is impossible. Only two ways of getting out that I could find at either end of a very long building, confusing enough in normal conditions, deadly in a fire.Concrete was mouldy and slippery and from the outside of the building, you could see that concrete on the walkways had broken portions in many places.
This is a total dump, many many other as cheap and cheaper places that do look appreciate their guests in Cairns and for another twenty five dollars per night,we got a huge apartment in the main street of Cairns with professional attitudes from their staff.Give it a complete miss.

Room Tip: Try somewhere else
