Lovely place to spend a quiet morning or a few hours to have morning tea in the tea house by the lake

You can either take the short or long route through the Tablelands. Lots of stops along the way, antique shops, gallelries, quaint cake shops. Stop off at the Lake House, sit on the deck and look out on the lake whilst having tea and scones, or go for a boat cruise and spot the wildlife. Drive to Mission beach and have some lunch, wonderful spot, see if you are lucky enough to spot a cassowary.

The Cairns region has so much more to offer than the Reef and wonderful beaches; the tablelands are only about 1 to 1 1/2 drive from the coast and has so much diversity and attractions to see.
For lovers of bird life and wildlife, this is an absolute paradise whether it be a cassowary sighting or a golden bower, tree kangaroo , stripy possums etc.
There are also beautiful old timber towns like Yungaburra with so much history and character and specially on a day like Market Day on the last Saturday of the month.

From tropical forests to the coffee growing plains. Sugar cane area and deep red soil for potatoes....this place has it all, great cottage industries and great prices. Most vendors can send you products via post as well. Lots of beautiful places to drop in on for example the falls, Petronella Park, Ravenshoe...a lovely couple of days exploring this old volcanic area and as it is around 900 metres in elevation, gets chilly at night...look for the tree kangaroos and cassowaries.

This was top of our list of things to do whilst in Cairns. After a quick stop at Lake Eacham and the Curtain Fig Tree we headed for a light lunch at Gallo Dairyland. With chocolates purchased to go, it was time for the highlights of the day - the amazing waterfalls. Malanda, Millaa Millaa, Elinjaa, Zillie, Little Millstream and Millstream Falls. We also stopped at Windy Hill Wind Farm. You could easily spend a few days in this beautiful area.
