Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

We took some friends and our families for an afternoon at the lagoon. Although it was busy - you will find everything you need at this popular place.
We had an early sausage sizzle dinner whilst the children all played nearby on the beachside of the lagoon. BBQ facilities are great with seating nearby. There’s toilets and shower facilities too.
Lifeguards are on hand - although thankfully not required during our visit. It was a very humid day so there were a lot of bathers.
Nice place to watch the sunset - don’t forget your sunscreen, hat and insect spray for sundown!

We stayed in cairns perhaps a little too long. You need only a week max, however we were here for two. Nevertheless, it was really nice to just be able to sit and relax at the lagoon. And the little market on a weekend makes it all the more pleasant

Is there anything better then a play in the pool on a hot day. The grounds are lovely and the view to the harbour is nice. Lovely that some things on holiday don't have to cost the earth

Lovely lagoon, always packed and a great spot for a picnic and swim. Make sure you put $$ in the parking station infront of the pier. Parking cops are out in full force. This place would be fantastic for people with children, or backpackers who don't have a pool in their accommodation
