Owner description: Seastar Cruises premium reef cruise combines the outer Great Barrier Reef with a coral cay island. In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot.

Our trip with Seastar was amazing! We are a family with 9 and 11 year old kids. The trip was great for the entire family. We all enjoyed snorkeling at both locations and the staff at Seastar made the trip perfect. Anthony and the entire team were outstanding. Don't hesitate to book with them. It was worth every penny and more!

This is a small boat that makes daily trips to Michaelmas Cay and hastings Reef - the second being by far the best location.
As advertised, it is a very fast boat that will take you there before any crowds can form, but that comes at a price - a lot of motion, and a lot of sea sick people. You should carefully consider how prone you are to motion sickness, and take medication prior to boarding.
Wetsuits and lunch are included (but drinks are purchased at 3.00 each), snorkeling equipment as well. You can add dive, including introductory dive when they will teach you how to dive, and literally hold you by the hand.
The entire staff is absolutely perfect, best customer service possible. Attentive, going above and beyond to help the ones that were seasick, and the cold ones - I saw staff lending their own clothes to a teenager that did not take enough clothes!
Not a 5 star given small boat (although that might be perfect for some - smaller crowds, more seasickness), charge for drink, and Michaelmas Cay, which was unimpressive. But still highly recommended given absolute outstanding staff.

searched quote diligently for a more personal snorkelling trip that left from Cairns not Port Douglas! did not want to go on one of those massive tourist boats with everyone being just a number and lots of tourists that didn't speak English ! these guys were fantastic ,lots of personal care and attention, very helpful to everyone including novice divers and snorkelers , food was great and plenty of it , all equipment was provided , everyone was very personal and professional and they had all the correct procedures in place . Saw so many fantastic fish and the crew knew exactly where and when to go and were very knowledgeable about the marine life and the reef itself . absolutely loved it , highly recommended . A couple of tips..
.
IF THE CREW ADVISE THE WIND WILL BE OVER 20 KNOTS FOR THE DAY- TAKE THE SEASICK TABLETS THEY ADVISE OR YOUR DAY WILL BE RUINED ! our day was not but I can see how this could ruin your day ... also bring dry clothes , towel and a backpack to put all your gear in.
they take photos all day for free and post them online so if you don't have an underwater camera you don't miss out , also the glass bottomed boat was a great addition to the trip too. Australian family owned business too , so ++++ all round !

I have been on many cruises but this one day trip is one of the most unforgettable experience I have ever had.

Lots of laughter, lost of care, huge tons of fun, Lovely beach, very nice and friendly crew members, hot girls running free sea taxi :)

There is not much extra spending on board, which makes it fun plus, (well tips is not mandatory but having such a fun day definitely worth some )

Instead of selling pictures on boat, they Offer huge amount of free fun face photos, and it is just available on face book.

Well done Sea-star, We ll definitely come back for a second visit.

The crew were all young and friendly while still being very professional. The snorkel tours were really informative and all staff gave the impression that they care about the reef and it's survival. They really looked after our 8 and 10 yr old kids and all of us had a wonderful day on the reef. Unforgettable. Good value and a smallish tour so no waiting around or feeling crowded. Great work Seastar! Bec, mike, Finn and zoe
