Owner description: Seastar Cruises premium reef cruise combines the outer Great Barrier Reef with a coral cay island. In only 1 1/4 hours the fast air-conditioned Seastar 1 can take you from Cairns to magnificent Michaelmas Cay, the largest of the local uninhabited coral cays. Cruising past Green Island, Upolu cay and Oyster reef Seastar is the first boat to arrive. After an enjoyable time here it is a short 20 minute cruise to the splendid Hastings Reef sitting on the very outer edge. This is where the corals thrive, well out from the coast away from the influence the rivers and streams, adjacent to the clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. You will have 2 1/2 hours at each location. Plenty of time to go snorkeling, do a introductory dive, relax on the beach of the Island or join a tour in the Glass Bottom Boat at Hastings Reef. The day cruise on Seastar inlcudes Morning/Afternoon tea, high quality snorkel equipment, Wetsuit or Lycra suit (depending on the time of year), Glass Bottom Boat Tour, Hot & Cold Buffet Lunch, Reef Interpretation & Guided Snorkel Tours on each spot.

Exelent staff, personal service and made you feel like a rockstar. Staff go out of Their way to make sure you have everything you want or need.
Hopefully you'll get Anthony and he will take your underwater camera down caves etc for photos ! We went for our wedding Ann and want to go again and again. We booked much more expensive tours to the reef just to be disappointed. Also you won't go to a more beautiful reef then Hastings :) thanks to all the crew you made our whole holiday :) nothing compares to this small family business and within 5 mins of walking on the boat you'll see...

Such a great, fun day, thanks to the hilarious crew of Seastar. It's a small boat, so your group of <35 people are the only ones at the sites. The first stop we saw turtles and decided to swim back leisurely to the boat. The second stop, was chock full of big and small fish, rays, and one snorkeler spotted a sand shark. Both stops were fantastic and, even better, they stop for a while, so you don't feel rushed. The crew is also quite knowledgeable about marine life, which made the snorkel trips that much more interesting.

Can't say enough good things about this outfit. Some tips: take seasickness tablets. They offer them on the boat for a nominal fee, so take them! I saw several peoples' days ruined by seasickness. Bring a giant bottle of water. I forgot how thirsty snorkeling leaves you. Wear the suits that they offer. We saw stingers at both dive spots.

If you want to have personal attention or you just want a relaxing intimate cruise, the Seastar is the one I would choose every time. I took my Dad out for his 80th birthday and he loved every minute - had a great time snorkelling. The crew were attentive to our every need and were funny and entertaining the entire day. What I loved most about it was that there were no big crowds so the ratio for crew to guests was high, the boat itself was clean and comfortable and looks glorious in the water for those photos you want to take back to show off!! t felt almost like we had chartered our own private cruiser for the day. The reef was gorgeously breathtaking. Do yourself a favour and hire an underwater camera that they offer onboard, our photo's were amazing thanks to this top class camera. Having the two locations to visit was fantastic and there was no time wasted as we were served a lovely lunch while travelling from one spot to the next. I can't thank them enough as we had just the best day ever. There were couples, singles, families with smaller children and me and my dad!! It was obvious that everyone had a fun day by the huge loud "whoo hoos", and whistles of delight at the end of the day when our host asked if we enjoyed our trip. You guys rock!

Takes 35 people so felt more personalised service. Young team of workers that were professional and fun, had good rapport between themselves which made for an enjoyable day. I am not a strong swimmer, someone stayed with me at all times, without their support I would not have ventured out snorkelling and missed out on a wonderful experience.

Was thrilled to find a cruise company commited to smaller group tours (35 people tops), good local knowledge and friendly people! Felt like we got a really nice overview of the reef, lunch provided was yummy and the prices were very reasonable. Would go again :)
