We thoroughly enjoyed taking visitors from New South Wales into the city to the Roma Street Parkland. We had often driven past it, but we drove in and parked easily at the minimal cost of $1.00 an hour at the weekends - so we booked three hours. Street parking would be more expensive. Walking into the parkland, we found places to sit or stand to admire trees and the plants along the way, and passed fountain areas. We easily found seats near the Barbecue area, had a picnic lunch and enjoyed the view. There is water for drinking and toilets nearby - but the ibis birds are quite aggressive, and jumped up on a nearby unattended table where food was left unattended. They must not be fed!
We easily walked through the whole of the parkland, admiring the trees and flowers and the gardens - well set out and planted with spring flowers. Different areas are set out where you can just walk around, including an eye-glass pattern of flowers. There is also a small rain-forest section and a wonderful large waterfall over into the area where there is a large playground/parkland:plenty of room for children and people to play games or just laze around. We took our time taking photos (as did everyone else I think) and just enjoyed wandering through these well-kept gardens. There is a cafe located at the southern end also ... but we had taken food and drink. Suits all ages - with lots of different experiences to be had. Thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing time and will return.

Some other guests in our hotel recommended this park after we said we enjoyed the botanical gardens. We're glad they did! A short stroll up the hill from the CBD, the gardens are extensive and excellently maintained, with a Rain Forrest walk and plenty of bird life. I'm not that much into flowers, but the displays are great and worth seeing.
Recommended.

If you like beauty and colour a walk through the "Roma Street Parklands" is an experience to behold. The perfumes from the large variety of flowers now on display seems to waft along with the warm spring breezes.

Wonderful park in the CBD which offers a chance to get away from the hustle and bustle. Take your binoculars for the bird life is good for an urban park.

Decided to brave the park with the 3 + 4 yr old on my own. First visit, weekday afternoon. Had no idea on parking situation, but couldn't find any free parking close by. Paid about $10 for 2 hrs but it was right along the park. 2 hrs was a good amount of time when we didn't stop for snacks or a picnic. Kids loved walking around and seeing the different sights and of course stopping by a play area for about 40 mins was great to burn their excess energy. Saw a train driving around with passengers. Not too much info readily available about the train posted around but got the down low from a staff member at 'The Hub'. We were sadly a bit too late to catch a ride this time. But apparently it's free. Kids loved the winding paths, the water falls, the open grass areas, the colourful flowers, the huge trees, etc. would definitely like to do it again with the hubby involved. Maybe make a day of it and take a picnic. It's one of those places that you'll see a group of students all gathering around a BBQ or a musician sitting in the middle of the grass area strumming a guitar and then a photographer taking advantage of the beautiful blooms. Train station is nearby which might be cheaper than parking all day??
