The hotel is very well located to Central Station - subway to airport.
The location also is only a few blocks downhill to most of the shopping, cultural and dining experiences.
However, the hotel is in need of some updating. The carpet in room was worn, the paint needs freshening and the washroom needed upgrading. We covered the floor drain with the phonebook to rid ourselves of the sewer gas smell. Bed was comfortable.
The worst thing was the terrible complementary breakfasts- cold-cold-cold. and dishes were not regularly refilled.

Room Tip: Rooms on south side are quieter. -Garbage collection at 6:15 AM on North side.

This hotel has an average price, an average ambience, and an average and dated decor, except for the two enormous and striking chandeliers in the lobby. But in saying that, customer service on arrival good, not overly friendly but efficient and effective. Room was clean, bed firm, but I like that, pillows were lumpy and I didn't like that. Location is at at TOP of Jacobs Ladder- set of steps just in front of hotel, leading to CBD about five mins away. King Edward Park across the street and Roma St Parklands nearby too. A few decent coffee shops within walking distance and you do get a view of the city, least we did- room 906. If you need a place just to crash, are here on self funded business, or aren't into spending lots of dollars go on hotels, or are on a budget, then hotel is FINE. Cleanliness counts a lot in my book and room was, so that is a huge plus. You can have breakfast in the park across the street, from a cafe overlooking park and if you're into exercise you can walk those steps on Jacobs ladder a few times for your aerobic workout.

Affordable and clean hotel with a standard room with kitchenette. Location is superb at these prices. No room service but you just can go down and collect your food from ground floor no big deal. Really cheap parking also for inner city. I'll definitely come back

A poor rating for this joint is being very kind. Apparently popular with Shanghai tourists, the vibe was bad on walking in. The room was basic but the cleanliness was abysmal. Had the bed been used? Unlikely, but the synthetic bed cover smelled bad and the sheets were limp and crumpled and uninviting. But I was tired after a long flight. I did find long black hair in the bed.

It was easy to leave at 5 am for the airport; a joy to leave this place never to return. If properly cleaned, it would be acceptable. As I found it, and unless you're broke, a few dollars more will get you a good room in the Urban or the Grand Chancellor.

Room Tip: The best way to choose a good room is go somewhere else.

We had an excellent adventure in Australia due in no small part to the help and knowledge of the staff. We had a well kept and warm hotel, it was winter in Australia, to stay in the breakfasts were nourishing, hot, and very tasty. The room was well maintained by housekeeping. This hotel is located close to public transportation making it easy to get around. Australia is a wonderful country to visit and these people made it special. Thanks again. Mike and Carol
