Palms City Resort was the go to overnighter for my partner and I for years.
The Spa Rooms are fantastic. Not the most modern décor in the Top End but what Palms City Resort lacks in modern décor they make up for 10 fold in charm.
Can not rave about this place enough.
Take my advice and stay!

Palms City Resort offers several options of accommodation, from bungalow to studio rooms. I have stayed here twice and found the rooms clean and comfortable. The bungalows have limited cooking facilities but enough for a short stay.
You can hear your neighbours when they come home late at night but once inside it's ok. The pool is welcome relief on a hot day
Close to places to eat/attractions and tourists operators come to the resort
There is a well equipped laundry. The staff are friendly and the gardens surrounding the units/bungalow complete the tropical resort
There is also a cafe for breakfast but can not comment as I did not dine there

We stayed at Palms City Resort for five nights whilst in Darwin for V8 Supercars racing. It was really convenient, close to city, buses and restaurants. Also good value during this special event. Resort itself is aging but clean and comfortable with nice lush gardens and a pool. We felt safe and secure as key access is required for the entire property. It faces the esplanade which is great for walks.

Room Tip: Motel style rooms were good but the villas look better. Seems all rooms were free from outside noise...

Second visit, I go out in the cool of the morning, and come back to the cool of the room at 1 ish, room not done even after requests to have it done before 12. This took the gloss off a bit as it would have been perfect to return to a fresh room.

Room Tip: Chalets are great with BBQ on verandah

Over the days of my stay, I increasingly appreciated the hotel's location. It's near the lovely Esplanade, Darwin Waterfront, and the main but tiny shopping Smith Street mall directly opposite the Visitors' Information Centre, which is near the main bus stop and a Hop-On-Hop-Off Bus pick-up stop. It's just a little away from the pub and restaurant area on Mitchell St - which turned out to be a blessing as the people drink and party till late every single night. Coles the trusty supermarket is just round the corner and there are a couple of eateries on the same stretch. The only downside in terms of its location is that it's about the furthest it can be to Mindil Beach Markets which take place 2x/week. The buses don't run on Sun evenings so I walked 40 min there.
I stayed alone so the room is spacious. The 1st 3 nights, I had a standard room which can sleep 3, but there isn't space for multiple pieces of luggage, especially for international travellers. I did notice many guests were from other parts of Australia. The walls were thin such that I could hear the partying from Mitchell St and in the mornings when people talk outside my room. I had a less than satisfactory encounter after the 1st night when I slept in and missed the making of room as the housekeeping team goes off at 3pm, this information which wasn't relayed to me or indicated in the guest information book. I had a garden villa the final night which is smaller but contains many more amenities for cooking/eating. In-between my stays I left some stuff at the hotel while I went on a 3D2N tour.
Check-in's & outs were a breeze and counter staff were helpful, albeit grudgingly at times and really friendly on other occasions, depending who's on duty.
Overall I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms away from Mitchell Street are quieter and I'd feel safer not having the garden villa with...
