“Most awful place to stay. Don't go there.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 September 2011

It seemed the general consensus of the couple of dozen or so people unfurtunate to find themselves there at the time I was there that this place is a bit of dive (i.e. unclean, unkept, dirty, unhygienic, unsafe). There seemed to be little care from the staff and the little work that was done to keep the place tidy was done by guests wanting to reduce their rates. I was at the better part of the hostel, and it was still terrible.

The health department of the N.T. should be inspecting this place and issuing violations of many, many codes. Toilets and bathrooms seemed to be rarely serviced and expecting toilet paper seems to be setting a target too high. Stairways can be blocked, noise not managed (very noisy at all hours), tile floors usually wet and slippery. One might feel lucky to walk away from this place without an illness or injury. Not worth the money.

Definitely suggest others choose something elsewhere, based on experience from the many, many hostels that I have stayed in around the world.

I even noticed an undercover bicycle storage area had been used as a car trailer space. The pool was badly fenced and I'm not sure the water was properly treated. Garden waste was left lying un-managed in pne corner of the yard. A little effort would go a long way at this place. An un-fixed vending machine at Frogs Hollow had a note (warning) on it from someone (a guest) that 'it takes your money and gives you nothing' - sums up the hostel pretty well.

We stayed there for only one night, but found it really nice, for a backpacker hostel! The room was spacious, but needed a few extra plugs! bathroom was ok, though no toilet paper... And the kitchen was not the tidiest, but what can we expect for less than 30 bucks a night? We could lock the door, and had lockers in the rooms, 1 per bed. The staff was friendly, but don't listen to their advice, we almost missed our flight because of that!

OMG where to start! I am a bit picky when choosing places to stay but unfortunately for me i let my friend pick the hostel. I have travelled through various countries and stayed in many hostels and this was the worst one i've ever stayed in.

As soon as i opened the door to my room i nearly spewed. It smelt like dirty feet, mould and there was crap everywhere. All the beds had crap on it so i had to go downstairs and let the girl know there was no room. I stood behind the counter for 20 mins while she talked to some irish guy about random crap when she could see me waiting there with my sheets. I asked her if there were any other rooms but the place was booked out. Someone had left all their stuff on the bed so she moved it all.
The bathrooms! make sure u wear a pair of thongs. I was in the bathroom when the guy was cleaning them and it nearly made me sick. He was using one dirty old looking sponge to clean the toilets, sinks and showers. There was a gigantic black ball of hair in the middle of one of the showers and he didn't bother to clean it out, so its probably been there for months. When he mopped he must have been using the one bucket of water for all the bathrooms because when he was done there were black streaks everywhere and it smelt worse than when he started.
I can't even explain how bad this place is. All i can do is warn you, don't go there. Unless you're a dirty, smelly person who doesn't care about hygiene. I don't know much about how easy it was to get sleep cause i couldn't bring myself to stay the night.

We stayed here as part of a trip travelling around Australia at last minute as it was mentioned in the Lonely Planet. The room cost AUS$60 and was the worst place we have ever stayed! The room was tiny with just enough room to get around the double bed, the sheets were dirty, the walls were dirty, the fan was in an terrible state. When I went to the communal toilets, they were filthy, sinks were rusty. The smell and standard was far worse than a public toilet in London (which trust me, stink!) and there was smelling rubbish just left in the walkways. The staff were not remotely bothered by this.

We found Australia to be expensive, and stayed in budget hostels so expectations were not high, but this was quite astonishingly poor. If you need a budget place do not stay here - the choice of budget accommodation in Darwin is not great, but other places we stayed were better.

My partner and i stayed here UNFORTUNATELY for a few days in May. Darwin is expensive, and this happens to be a tiny bit cheaper than the other backpackers... but when the the peak period gets into full swing, it'll be the same price.. so there really isn't any reason to stay here.
The double room we stayed in was not very clean. Dirt and marks all over the walls. The floor had dead bugs all around the walls and under the bed. There is no curtain over the window.. it's a sheet.. and the sheet isn't even fastened to the wall, its just tied to the curtain rod. The fan makes noise.
BUT the real reason this place is the worst backpackers of all is the noise. You cannot sleep here. All the room doors face a balcony, there are tables and chairs on this long communal balcony, people get drunk here and talk real loud, screaming and drinking all night. And these backpackers at this hostel, are not the regular bunch. This hostel will let ANYONE check in. There are no standards here. If you have the cash you can stay. other hostels turn away people who look like trouble. Here they congregate. Seriously, there are rough, rowdy backpackers here that drink and smoke all day in the common areas. There are even a few older australian men here.. who fit the description 'LEERY' to the Tee!

The kitchen is another nightmare. Don't dare walk anywhere in this place without your shoes on... especially the bathrooms and kitchen. There is food and crumbs all over the floor and kitchen. I dont think there is a regular cleaner like most hostels have in the day.. as the kitchen dishes are piled up high next to the sink (another consequence of the clientele they allow to check in here) The common areas are filthy. the couch has food and dirt all over it, i dont think they've ever been vaccuumed or cleaned. Apparently there is a pool, but I was there for days, and I had absolutely NO desire to lay eyes on it. I can only imagine. Forget trying to find soap in the bathroom.. HA!

good -- there is a cabinet in the room that you can lock your belongings in.. i would take advantage of this, as there is a lot of rough looking people staying here.

To sum it up -- GO somewhere ELSE! This place is low.. it needs new management to come in here and clean it up.
