We've just returned from a 3 day stay at Uluru. Fantastic destination, don't miss it!

What we liked:
1. our apartment was very clean and was serviced daily
2. our requests were attended to promptly by staff
3. most things were priced fairly

What we didn't like:
1. poor access for people with a disability (lots of stairs, a bit of a walk from the carpark so don't take too much luggage and teeny tiny knobs on heavy cupboard doors made them difficult to open)
2. poor attention to detail - e.g. not enough cutlery for all of us in our apartment, all towels were washed and replaced daily even though we did not request this in an attempt to be kinder to the environment
3. pay tv channel wasn't working properly ? even the staff did not know the answer to this question
4. the airconditioning was a little problematic (too hot even at minimum setting so had to open a window to keep it comfortable which was a bit wasteful!
5. service at the Gecko cafe was very slow.

We had a great stay at the Emu Walk. I did not know what to expect after reading mixed reviews but we were pleasantly surprised.
Check in was easy - a little confusing as to where to check in though. We parked our car close by and had a 50m walk to our 2 bedroom, 2nd storey apartment. It had a view of the rock and was clean and quite large. Being winter it was also quite warm and it was convientiently located next to the villiage square ( supermarket, restaurants etc)
It was perfect for our famliy 5, and would recommend to all families or couples wanting to self cater.

We stayed in the Emu Apartments over a long weekend in winter. The apartment had all the amenities we needed (toaster, microwave, fridge, TV, towels, etc). We had one major gripe which was the heating. The resort is clearly set up for the summer and the extreme temperatures. During winter it gets cold during the day as well and we had to ask several times for the thermostat temperature to be increased. However, the housekeeping staff were extremely helpful so when that was sorted we had a great time. The supermarket on the resort was more reasonable than we feared (comparible to Sydney prices). The restaurants are a bit more expensive but given the remoteness we expected as much. Overall the apartment is showing its age but provided all we needed for a great weekend.

Stayed here with family and thoroughly enjoyed it - spacious, clean and well appointed. Kitchen makes it easy to self cater and the supermarket is fairly priced. The resort is lovely with plenty of space to walk around, amazing grounds and a wide selection of pools and restaurants. One tip - the red rock deli has happy hour from 3-4 and they sell a lot of food half price. They have yummy cakes and salads you can take back to the unit. Also we booked our accommodation early and then a week before we left noticed wotif had exactly the same apartment available at emu walk for half the price. Rang emu walk/voyages and they happily price matched. Saved us heaps! We happily recommend this place. Our experience was really positive.

The first surprise was that we could not get the car anywhere near our accommodation to unload bags which had to be carried some distance through the shopping area .The outside of the building looked good but the interior of the two bedroom apartment could do with some upgrading to make it more comfortable and easier to clean.

The second surprise was the unusual design of the unit - a great cavernous place of three levels with a cold atmosphere even in the hot season. The aircon was so effective that we had to turn if off. I'm not sure how easy it will be to heat the place in the colder months as the ceiling is so high.

This place is definitely NOT suitable for anyone who has any physical problem with climbing up and down stairs because the bedrooms and bathroom are on the top level. Level one was the entrance and lounge area including a desk for computers, level two was the kitchen and dining area with doors out to a dusty patio which had a dead plant, two plastic chairs and a table. Anyone with small children would need to be vigilant as a fall down the tiled [ concrete under?] steep stairs could happen easily. The stair rails were probably secure but did look a bit iffy.

The equipment in the kitchen was minimal, especially considering that it was an apartment for up to 6 people. The bathroom was quite big but needed some repairs to tiles on the walls to allow for cleaning to be effective.

One company has the monopoly on all accommodation at Uluru. The price we paid per night, booking on wotif a few days prior to departure was $312 per night - the "Off " season rate is very expensive for the standard provided. Only the location near Uluru and its remoteness offers any excuse or explanation for this.

Seeing Uluru, especially after a lot of rain is a special event which sends thoughts of overpricing and costs right out of one's mind!
