There is no doubt the Opera Bar is a fantastic place to view Sydney Harbour and the Bridge, and watch action on the water. You are right at the Opera House, so for a tourist it is a great place to go for a visit. The people watching is also fabulous, I could sit there all day watching...however, like many tourist destinations it is expensive. $10 for a beer on tap (medium size) is very expensive, and quite frankly a rip-off. The food is average, should be much, much better considering where you are sitting. Our pizza base was soggy and too heavily loaded with extra bits, but after a few drinks it's probably looking OK. The Calamari is terrible, avoid it, the chicken skewers were overcooked and whilst generous, heavily flavoured.
On the plus side, we enjoyed watching a huge ocean liner leave the terminal opposite and this was fascinating, especially when it felt we could almost reach out and touch it. The staff were very good, our table was cleaned regularly and it was quick, friendly & polite service at the bar. We didn't have to wait very long for drinks, which at a busy bar is a real bonus.
It is a good place to visit for tourists and Sydney-siders should go to enjoy their city, but it is over-priced.
