There is no doubt the Opera Bar is a fantastic place to view Sydney Harbour and the Bridge, and watch action on the water. You are right at the Opera House, so for a tourist it is a great place to go for a visit. The people watching is also fabulous, I could sit there all day watching...however, like many tourist destinations it is expensive. $10 for a beer on tap (medium size) is very expensive, and quite frankly a rip-off. The food is average, should be much, much better considering where you are sitting. Our pizza base was soggy and too heavily loaded with extra bits, but after a few drinks it's probably looking OK. The Calamari is terrible, avoid it, the chicken skewers were overcooked and whilst generous, heavily flavoured.
On the plus side, we enjoyed watching a huge ocean liner leave the terminal opposite and this was fascinating, especially when it felt we could almost reach out and touch it. The staff were very good, our table was cleaned regularly and it was quick, friendly & polite service at the bar. We didn't have to wait very long for drinks, which at a busy bar is a real bonus.
It is a good place to visit for tourists and Sydney-siders should go to enjoy their city, but it is over-priced.

We dined outside 90 minutes before a ticketed opera performance at the Opera House. The harbor views from here are quite nice and there is a lot of people traffic to be entertained by but like most of our experiences in Sydney and Melbourne, service was lacking. A very hurried and stressed employee was the only one in sight other than the bartenders at their station. Only one of the bartenders was friendly. The crab linguine was quite good as was the Kingfish Salad. As this establishment is open all day, it seemed pretty easy to grab a table. Be prepared to order your food at the bar tending station!

A great place to take visitors to Sydney with the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House. The menu has a good variety of food. The drinks bars are readily accessible. There was also live music the night we went. Recommend late afternoon and stay for sunset. See the lights on the harbour and surrounding attractions.

My friend's and I went to the Opera Bar last night. There was a good atmosphere due to the abundance of people ranging from families to couples. They have a vast range of food and drinks, which are on the pricey side but that's Sydney for you. I always enjoy coming to Opera Bar.
