“Great choice for excellent budget hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 March 2012

I would highly recommend this property in order to save a lot of money in expensive Sydney. It has all the essentials one expects and a good location. The place is reasonably well maintained but don't expect anything 4 stars. TV channel choices are limited (12 channels) but you should be out and about most of the time. Rooms are cleam and beds comfortable. I took a basement room with private shower to save even more money and it suited me just fine. The neighbourhood is quite colourful and there is a large food store across the street with many restaurants and bars to choose from. It is a 5 min. walk from Kings Cross Victoria St. exit.

Even if Springfield is located in the noisy and vibrant King's Cross, it's found in a quiet street just behind Darlinghurst Road. The rooms are a little small but well maintained and complete with all amenities -- fridge, kettle, coffee/tea, toiletries. I loved the wooden floors which made the room's atmosphere warm and cozy. If you're a light sleeper though, I suggest you choose a room at the upper floors since you can hear the wood creaking when people walk in the rooms upstairs.

Springfield also has a common kitchen and laundry area, which is quite convenient if you want to cook your own food. Location-wise, it's also very convenient since it's just 2-3 minutes walk to the train station. Convenience stores and Cole's are nearby. The public library is nearby for free internet, although there are also internet shops in the area. You can also get wifi in your room for a fee.

And did I mention great value for money? I tried both the double room and the lower ground room. Both rooms were inexpensive, but still clean and well-maintained. Those on a budget can try the lower ground rooms, instead of staying in a backpacker's place. You pay the same price but get a much better room. Limit yourselves to just a maximum of two persons per room since the room is quite small.

Bang in the centre of vibrant King's Cross, 3 minutes walk from the station, Springfield Lodge is in a quiet leafy side street with easy pedestrian access to the Botanic Gardens and the marvellous Andrew Charlton outdoor seawater pool. Rooms and en suites are small - but the price is tiny by Sydney standards, and having fridge, kettle, tea and coffee making supplies really helps keep costs down. Reception staff are extremely helpful - thanks in particular to Brendan! I would certainly return here - Sydney is a marvellous city worth several days exploration. And a tip for seniors - a day-pass on train, bus and ferry costs a mere $2.50 and is valid til the wee hours. Also remember that the nearby public library on Darlinghurst Road offers free internet.

Room Tip: I had a 3rd floor room which was really quiet. Be prepared to lug bag up stairs as lift stops on se...

Booked this last minute before I arrived in Sydney, was pretty good value and cheaper than many double rooms in hostels. We stayed for 3 nights, got a decent sized double room on the ground floor, with an en suite shower room for about £200 for us both. We were right beside the reception and it was a bit noisy, but nothing that decent earplugs couldnt sort out. Great location in Kings Cross and Potts Point, with the craziness of Darlinghurst Rd on your doorstep but also some great restaurants and bars nearby In Victoria Street and Wolloomooloo. This is not luxury accommadation, and nor does it pretend to be. Sydney is a shockingly expensive city now and this place is clean, cheap and central. You cant really expect huge ensuites and pure quiet in the middle of Kings Cross. It is not a B&B, but there is a cafe which is set up at the front of the Guesthouse which serves a good breakfast and lovely coffee. I would recommend.

I took tripadvisors reviewers advice for getting a quiet room by booking 6 weeks in advance, paying extra by not booking online and requesting top floor, not near stairs. But I got exactly the opposite, so what do I have to do to get what I request? The receptionist was nice and the room was ok,with a good ensuite and a/c,though the tv remote didnt work. It is well positioned too,but I wont be taking up their guests with benefits "loyalty card".
