“Never again - unclean place.”
Reviewed 26 May 2012

I will never, ever come back to this hostel and it is definitely nominated for being the worst hostel in my 3,5 months of traveling through Australia.

The 6 bed dorm I was staying was small and there, and the beds were so close together there was hardly anyplace to leave our backpacks. The dorms were very hot at night, and therefore we slept with open windows.. As a result we got a cockroach family in our room. The mattresses were uncomfortable and the linen didn't look very clean to me.. So I had to use my own.

The bathroom was simply disgusting, with mould at the walls and hairs and nails all over the floor. Even after the staff came 'cleaning', the same hairs where still on the floor at the same spot. Had to wait 2 days before new toiletpaper was provided in the only toilet on my floor. There where insects walking around in the kitchen, sink filled with foodscraps which nobody removed, so couldn't use them for doing dishes. Wanted to clean a pan but couldn't find anything to clean it with, asked at the reception and they didn't have a spare sponge or anything. Really, this is NOT a clean hostel and it is managed by backpackers so nobody is doing anything about it.

I did like the fact that the place is relativity quiet (no bars or anything connected to the hostel) and they have free toast with jam, thee and coffee in the morning. But unfortunately, that didn't make up for the dirty bathroom, dorm and kitchen. More than 15 minutes walking before you are in the city center. No air conditioning. And not even a cheap hostel... For the price of 33 AUD a night, you can get much better, and especially cleaner, in Sydney.

Dirty, noisy, old rooms that never got cleaned. The kitchen is terrible with by far not enough plats, mugs etc. Saw also some cockroaches in the kitchen. Every night drinking games, lots of puking in rooms and bathrooms. Seemed like the hostel got run by backpackers who stayed there themselves and couldn't really control the hostel. There should be someone who supervises. My mattress was dirty and I was sleeping on the wood under it. Not comfortable... Would not recommend this to my ennemy.

Well, indeed, we get what we pay for, however, still, in my opinion, there should be at least some service. Which does not exist. The manager instead of answering my question how to get to certain location told me to go to Central station and ask information, he even did not care about it.
It is dirty, noisy, and disgusting place.
However, it is cheap. is it worth it. Definitely no.
No free Internet, wi-fi sucks. Kitchen closes at 10 PM, how can you eat if you had some business till night? Everybody is drunk, the corridors and showers are terribly dirty. The hostel presents a symbol of "I-do-not-know-what-the-sanitary-means".

Room Tip: Do you want there? think thoroughly beforehand. Do not go there with family or as a couple.

Between the cockroachs that fall on you during your sleep, the total dirtiness of the place, the 'i-don't-care-at-all' attitude of the management, this was awful to be there. The kitchen is disgusting, everything is also so dirty there. Furthermore, only 3 or 4 cups to accommodate hundred people.
They also cheated on me regarding internet. They sold me a one day access card for almost 8 dollars, but forgot to tell me that internet worked only in their office, which unfortunately is closed more than 12 hours per day... Not fair, not clean, smelly... Don't go there if you can!

I stayed in this hostel for around 9 mounths, i loved it and it deffinatly became my home!
The staff were lovely and really helpful, i really felt like they whent out their way to help me and the the other guests out! It came under new managment around 6 months ago and it is deffinatly on the up!
The location is really good, assuming you don't mind a bit of banter with the tanny prostitues out side, but lets be honest that's entertainment for free right there!
The ents. program was really good too, from free food to free entry to clubs, and free drinks while you are there! what more could you want?!?!
there is definaly a family feel amongst the loing term guests and it is extended to those only staying there for a few nights too, everybody chilling out in the courtyard and drinking some goon (at least once a week at the hostels expence!!!)
in short i would deffinatly recomend this place to any one! (in fact i would recomend any woodduck hostels to any one having stayed in 3 of them myself)
