Great statues of memorable people of Sydney's past.
Grand old trees.
Flower beds full of colour.
People walking, strolling, lunching, picnicing or just taking in the ambience.

Lots of photography.

A well designed and well tended park right in the centre of Sydney.
Despite being surrounded by roads and traffic, it gives a sense of the rural and is certainly quite quiet.
Enjoy the rest there and relax for a little while - away from work or away from the usual tourist delights.
One of the great aspects is that there are several magnificent buildings on its edges - St Mary's Catholic Cathedral. the Australian Museum, St Andrew's Anglican Cathedral and St James Church. So stand in the middle and spin round - and you can find hundreds of years of Sydney history only a few steps away. And - and - don't overlook the Anzac memorial; that is a poignant and historic element which is a must see (I think).

We entered the park by St James station and the noisy raucous pub with its loud music and proceeded towards the architecturally beautiful St Mary's Cathedral. It was amazing to see the flower beds of annuals, which we will see back home in a few months time, in well tended gardens. In this part of the park, much of the lawns were fenced off, although we saw a group of men doing gym training and in another part a group practising some form of martial arts. Hyde Park is in two parts and we crossed over to the second part. There is a memorial to Naval officers who lost their lives in WW1. What was intriguing was the Anzac memorial which is being renovated. There is fencing around it at the moment, but what we could see showing at the top, looks absolutely spectacular. It is worth taking time out to visit Hyde Park.

Hyde is a lush peaceful park. It is large with many comfortable benches to relax on. Watch or listen for native birds or watch the crowd go by.
