We visited on a Sunday afternoon and joined a walking guide explaining the significance of things in the garden. Water features, bamboo garden, koi fish, pagoda and a waterfall are just some of the things to enjoy. We had tea in the tea house which overlooked the pond. Light meals were available and there are bathrooms on sight. Entry to garden was $6 for adults.

Regarding the fact of the garden's location, once you enter the noise of the passing traffic fades to insignificance. The gardens are well laid out with walks around pools, fountains and waterfalls. There are plenty of places to sit and relax whilst watching the water dragons (lizards) sunning themselves on the rocks or swimming in the pools. The gardens have a small café and toilets.

We have walked past a number of times on our visits to sydney, and on this past visit, we went in. What a wonderful surprise it was, so peaceful and a wonder for the senses. The garden is so well laid out, and a real peaceful haven in the centre of the city. We intended in going around in half an hour, and ended up staying for a couple of hours. Brilliant.

I spent an hour or so in the gardens with my camera photographing the colourful lizards hidden amongst the rocks, wisely watching the inquisitive humans watching them!

It didn’t feel busy, even on the day of the lunar new year. I ended up with a dozen great photos - well worth $6 entry fee!

We visited the Chinese garden of friendship here in Sydney in the midst of the lunar new year celebration! Consequently, we were able to see the gardens open with some wonderful dancing in costumes and included some acrobatics.

The gardens themselves are lovely, and contain wonderful plants, water ponds with water lilies, and a variety of trees and shrubs. It’s also fun despite the water dragons, including the one we saw a literally jump into the water!

They had a variety of activities planned throughout the day including: calligraphy, arts and crafts for kids, and a tour of the gardens.

The cost of the gardens is only six dollars and it’s well worth it. Come and enjoy!
