I loved wandering this neighborhood, exploring the menus of the eclectic restaurants, gazing into the cafes, and wandering off King Street to see the partially gentrified residential areas. Great fun.

Hasn't changed much in decades; always going to be the "next" suburb , definitely not mainstream, some people call it a dump, but it's clearly different to most other suburbs. It has a lot to offer with cafes and restaurants, bookshops, retailers but not of a franchise type.
Having said all of that, I find nearby Enmore Road more interesting to both quality and diversity of restaurants.

If you love good food, interesting bars and shops this is a great place to wander.

You will find wine bars, grungy pubs, hipster hangouts all in one place.

Stuff happening at all times but especially on the weekend. Spans one of sydney's most interesting suburbs.

We really enjoyed our visit and time in Newtown and enjoyed the vibe of the place and the trendy feel with great restaurants and cafes throughout. It was nice in comparison to the city where we would usually stay and public transport was close at hand as well.
