Despite predictions of doom, Sydney's generally a fun place to be, but I've been a bit disappointed with the changes in places like Kings Cross and Balmain. However, every time I visit Newtown, I'm impressed with the level of activity and variety of sights along King St. The street is really crowded with shops, cafes and bars now, as well as small markets that pop up, especially on weekends. For a visitor, it might be best to get a bus to the north end of King St near Missenden Road, then walk down King St. At the train station, Enmore Road branches off and it's just as funky as King St now, while the southern end of King St is now a lot busier than when I used to live there. If you go all the way to the end, you'll reach Sydney Park, which is good for a rest and for views from the city to the airport. You could also divert along the back streets to see some old houses.

From all the hype expected a very trendy hipster place with lots of good coffee shops. Sadly just found a street (King Street) with relatively narrow footpaths (so hard to get through the masses) and fairly ordinary shops with few cafes. Managed to fall into a pretty good pizza restaurant so our time wasn't completely wasted.

This is a great place to stay in Sydney, just outside the city centre but close enough to reach the centre in a few minutes by Sydney Trains from Newtown station. The main street - King St - is lined on both sides by independent retailers and restaurants and always gives off a buzz. The demographic is mixed but young people seem to dominate, bringing a lively atmosphere to the place. Check out Sydney Park whilst here and keep your eyes peeled for some unique and colourful street art.

King St. is what Oxford St. used to be last century and tries to be again. An array of cheap and mostly good Restaurants. You walk along and choices are endless. Everybody can find something special. It is mainly cheap due to vicinity to University, but don't let it put you off, as there are plenty of great places to eat and drink. Lots of music also.

We have been going to this Nepalese restuarant for years and it was always one of the popular restuarants in Newtown. Alas no more. We went last night and were very disappointed. Two of the entres were good, the Dosai Masala and the MO MO. the rest of the meal was tastless and warm. We ordered the Rogan Josh, Chicken Tikk Masala, Dhal and Vegetable Korma. All were tasteless with NO flavour or spices. Even the garlic namm lacked garlic and the pistacho gulfi was more like an ice pop. when we pointed this out to the staff we were offered complimentary galamjomoles - poor offereing. When we asked we were told the restuarant was under new management with a new chef. If they want to survive and build on the previous good will then they have alot of work to do. As locals we will not be returning to this eatery in the near future.
