Very recently I took my 88 year old Father back to Fort Denison with family and friends. This was a very special visit for him as he had not been back since staying there as a youngster. My Uncle, his Brother-in-Law was born there, and hence my father having some wonderful memories and tales he wanted to tell. Romaine, our tour guide, was incredibly knowledgeable and very patient with him. She took the time after our tour to sit and listen to his stories. We all left the fort, so much wiser of it's history thanks to Romaine and my father.

What a great location we celebrated our wedding anniversary, to get things started we elected to purchse the sunset dinner not disappointed food was excellent a wide selection, service was friendly and efficient our water taxi arrived and departed right on time a quick blast through the harbour and our night commenced. On arrival we were given a very detailed history tour from our National Parks ranger about interesting fact on Fort Denison.
We were blesssed when one of the Royal Carribean Ocean liners departed Sydney Harbour on its cruise and passed directly by us great experience seeing those massive ships at sea level.

Overall a "must see" for Sydney Siders and tourists great location at reasonable rates

We caught the ferry to Fort Denison for lunch. We caught the ferry from Circular Quay and it only took about 5 mins to arrive. Reservations are needed but tables are seated on a first come basis, so it probably pays to be some of the first people off the ferry.(this is what happened on the day we were there)
We were lucky enough to be in the front row of tables with a stunning view of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge. It was one of the best lunch views I have ever had!
The ferry comes past every hour so you can decide if you want a quick lunch and tell the waiter you are leaving in an hour but we decided on a leisurely lunch and were happy to wait 2 hours for the next ferry.
We had a couple of drinks and a shared antipasto plate to start. Followed by mains. No dessert as we were full! Service was attentive and our water was often topped up and other drinks offered. The tables are fairly close together and most people seem to be celebrating an occasion or treating the lunch as a special treat so the atmosphere is quite happy and friendly.
Once we had finished our lunch we had about 30 mins until the ferry arrived. This was plenty of time to wander around the rest of the island (it's quite small!), read about the history and visit the bathroom before the ferry arrived.
It was a really lovely outing and being in the middle of Sydney Harbour felt wonderful. Even though we have lived in Sydney all our lives you never get over the beauty of the Harbour and I really think everyone should experience lunch here at least once.

The trip is from circular quay (Cook Cruises), nice trip over the water and you can have a look around (appreciate that the video tape is getting on a bit - so does cut out a bit). The lunch was very enjoyable indeed. It is really just a place for a short visit and lunch, it is only a small fort but a lovely place for a short visit. Do check your return trip timings, or if you are going further on (perhaps the zoo after) as there are fairly large gaps between return trips!

I took a trip to Fort Denison in February. As I landed an additional tour of the tower was about to start. It cost an additional $15 but was well worth it. If you are going to make the effort to visit the island then it is well worth the additional money to see the tower and hear a lot about the history of the island. I didn't stay for lunch but it looked like a lovely resteraunt
