One of our favourite Sydney beaches, Coogee is now starting to hold its own. Better located and you do not have to break the bank to park or eat at this beautiful eastern subrubs family haunt. Coogee is perhaps better known to British and continental backpackers, as well as some of our friends from across the Tasman , but has always held its place in the hearts of south eastern - eastern suburbs dwellers as being perhaps a better and family friendly beach with more structure and facilities then iconic neighbour, Bondi. Serviced by the M50 Sydney Buses Services from some Northern and North Western suburbs, next to our favourite Maroubra , it is our beach of choice. Eat at Fips on the beach or walk up the road to Renatos or one of the other eateries within 5 minutes walk of the beach. Open sided beach side huts with BBQs close by are dotted around the beach for public use.
Great as a family or friendship group excursion, even if on a tight budget as you can pack all your own food and drinks and have a picnic on the sand or one of the many beach huts. We saw families and friends of many different nationalities do just this and also a number of groups using the electric BBQs to cook meat etc. An inexpensive way to while away the time in a completely relaxing atmosphere whilst getting a tan or in for a cooling swim or surfing.
