The hotel's website describes itself as "Simpsons of Potts Point - the first choice of luxury boutique hotels in Sydney".
This establishment is situated in an extremely attractive old manor in a district bestowed with interesting restaurants and shops outside the BDC that can be reached in a 20 minute walk or a 10 minute walk to the subway at King's Cross and short ride thereafter.
The Dormer room we selected was situated on the 2nd floor up long staircases. If you have weighty luggage as we did, the staff member present when we arrived in the early afternoon was physically unable to bring the 22 kg luggage up the stairs suggesting we leave them on the ground floor. Since we just arrived from a long overseas flight, we needed to have the luggage, so we carried them up ourselves.
The room was comfortable with a ceiling fan, wall A/C unit, flat screen TV and smallish bathroom facilities. Furnishing were quite dated and below the standard we would expect for a boutique hotel.
There is some overlap between the concept of a small boutique hotel and a bed and breakfast and I would tend to classify this establishment in the bed and breakfast category from my experiences travelling.
Breakfast was excellent and plentiful and the owners most cordial and helpful with their suggestions. The Simpson's overall environment was relaxing.
Hotel prices in Sydney are generally dear and this establishment's prices are thus aligned accordingly.

Thanks for your Review.

We are glad that you enjoyed your time with us.

I am sorry that I wasn't there to help with the luggage when you first arrived, but what Ree had meant was to leave the luggage downstairs for a while until I got back to help!

Yes, descriptions can be confusing. We regard ourelselvs as a small boutique hotel, but understand that some may regard us as a bed-and-breakfast inn !

Whatever description, we are pleased that these guests liked our lovely old building (yes, some of the furnishings are a little dated, but we like to think that is part of the charm!?), and the convenient Potts Point neighbourhood.

Thanks for taking the time to review us. It does make all the difference, and we do appreciate it. It certainly helps future guests to get an idea of what to expect.

Cheers....keith and all of us here !

After decades of travel and hotel stays, the 'home away from home' alternative is the only acceptable solution. Simpsons is just that. Beautiful, quiet, understated, elegant, sort of like the best home cooked meal - tastes as wonderful as in the restaurant but is digested with much greater ease. Simpson's makes even a greater difference in Sydney where a large percentage of the hotel properties can be corporate and soulless. It made me feel like, for those hours spent in my room and in their deliciously fragrant drawing room, as if I wasn't really away.

Room Tip: tell the owner what you want - and trust him.

Hello Sean !

Thankyou for reviewing us.

Yes, I think your description is very apt.

We are pleased that you felt that way, and regarded a us as a "home away from home" ! That is exactly what we try to achieve, and we are glad that we succeeded in this case!

Thankd for the kind words. We hope to see you again one day, maybe with the family next time!

Cheers....keith and all the "Simpsons" team !

This is a period property, with high ceilings, opening windows and lots of character. The property is a little tired with older air conditioning, noisy fan, limited free to air TV. The staff are very attentive and keen to please.

Potts Point is a busy inner city area - quite close to Kings Cross which is vibrant yet has quite a rough element.

A 20 min walk to the city.

Room Tip: Ask for largest room and most natural light

We are glad that this guest enjoyed our lovely old home. Yes, after 120-years she is looking a little tired in places, although our little team does try to keep all the important comfort and cleanliness matters right "up to scratch"!

Potts Point is a very well regarded inner city neighbourhood, with an eclectic atmosphere, and full of great little cafes, restaurants, boutiques, etc., yet easily walkable into the centre of the city. My wife walks to work near the magnificent Queen Victoria Building, every day, in about 20-minutes.

Kings Cross is about a 10-minutes stroll, and is certainly a vibrant entertainment and tourist area, and is very handy for buying all the usual tourist necessities. It gets very busy on Friday and Saturday nights, but even then is perectly safe, and good fun.

Just spent a weekend at Simpsons, our second visit and it met all our expectations again. Stayed in the Cloud Suite a beautiful room on the first floor, at the front. Great cafes and restaurants within 5min walk. A walk to Elizabeth Bay or Rushcutters Bay is highly recommended and less than 15mins. Ree is a great host! We wont stay anywhere else when visiting Sydney.

You can't expect to find a new, modern and new-fashioned hotel. Actually, it would be recomended even a refurbishment of some rooms.
Despite this analysis, Simpsons of Potts Point Hotel is a recommended place for the travellers. Recepcionist and managers are really charming and compensate the structure conditions with a lot of affection, assistance and tips.
The hotel has a classic ornamentation, including coach, chairs, tables and pictures.
Breakfast is nice and the building is near to some good restaurants.
If you don't mind to walk trough some stairs, The Domain, Hide Park and Royal Botanic Gardens can be reached by foot.
