Slightly out of the way for the average tourist buit easily reachable on foot from the district The Rocks. The observatory itself is really worth a visit but most people come here for the spectacular sunset and the view over the harbour. Very romantic place.

We visit this place during the day time before heading to The Rocks market.
It is a free entry in the day time. Not sure it is for every day. People are preparing the place for their wedding, which this place comes with a great view.

This location will be a perfect place for a picnic looking at the Harbour Bridge and Luna Park. There are some activities to play with and are great for the kids.

Although we did not get to experience the entire night tour we did however get to view inside the living quarters of the observatory. It was sold out. So get your tickets in advance. We were here by invitation only through the Rocks Ghost Tours. We got to hear true stories of murder, suicide, hangings, hauntings and ghosts. Some of which happened here. Lots of history here. Want to come back to do the entire tour. Beautiful grounds. Situated on top of a hill. Great views.

Beautiful area - a self guided tour does not give this justice. I would get a guided night tour to get the full effect of the area.
